It's not much of a point. Almost any coach who's coached sub four minute milers never ran one himself. Lydiard coached two, Bob Timmons coached three, Bowerman coached at least six and I believe there were others I can't think of. None of them came anywhere close to running a four minute mile. How fast was Peter Coe's mile time.

The success his athletes are having are because he doesn't train them like a 1500m runner would.
A 1500m specialist would traditionally have much more of an emphasis on speed. What Jakob, and this generation of milers are doing, is showing that this is not the best approach. Developing the aerobic system is far more beneficial.
