Should we put asterisks next to all times where Super Shoes are worn?

Ahh...artificial propulsion. Been in use for quite some time legally in track and field. Think its high time to asterisk all Pole Vault marks not achieved with either a steel or bamboo pole.

Of course! Remember when cinder tracks got replaced by modern and all world, national, ncaa, HS records immediately got obliterated?! Yeah, me neither.

Or that and high jump when competitors got to start clearing higher bars without worrying about having only sawdust to break their fall.

But, yes, athletes like Snell would have run much faster on the more advanced rubber tracks.

Unpopular opinion: Snell would not have run “much faster” on a synthetic track - if at all. Synthetic tracks, when they came out, we’re not the ‘super shoes’ everyone currently likes to think they were. Modern tracks were so revolutionary when they came out that it took 4 years to improve the 800m WR less than one-tenth of a second. 4 years! Dave Woddle, on a synthetic track, barely (if at all) ran faster than Snell did 10-years earlier on a cinder track. Compare that to what we’re seeing now with super shoes.

HJ an PV have about as much in common with distance running as football. Which means they are pretty much not relatable at all. But nice try comparing a pole vault or high jump mats with shoes. Can’t wait for track to approve rotating tracks - all in the name of “ technological advances.”

Exactly! That’s why I keep asking when does track finally get rotating tracks? It’s about time we start competing with other sports - like golf. If golf can have clubs that hit further, why not a track that allows you to run even faster? Rotating tracks are where it’s at if we’re ever going to get under 3:30 for the mile.

In my opinion shoes should provide protection from underfoot conditions, and grip. That should be it.

I read a little bit more about this and what I meant was not 'artificial propulsion' but propulsion that is artificial (to a significant degree).

Obviously any motion of running that is not barefoot on the natural ground is going to be non-natural and somewhat artificial or altered but the degree to which it is changed is what is in question I think. So 'normal' shoes do that along with some track surfaces but the supershoes do it so significantly that it is an issue (a bit like the special banned LZR/Sharkskin swimsuit from Speedo).

I was not implying that there were rockets in the shoes or anything, lol.

It is interesting that they have called it Rocket.

Enhanced propulsion is artificial. But propulsion that is artificial is different from 'artificial propulsion' and they are kind of implying the latter by calling it Rocket, but having said that, names aren't literal like that anyway. You could call a shoe 'Explosion' and it is not going to do that.
