Bunch of weirdos expecting her to look like Marybeth sant price I guess? You can watch the video of her talking for 5 seconds and it's so obvious she's a regular hs girl. Wth is wrong with some of yall ?
title is wrong. it was a mixed race. the winning girl was very pleased to finlly have decent competition.
Not wild about these mixed races (good for her though). It puts the boys in a weird situation they don't HAVE to be in. Unless, maybe the boys volunteered for this one off thing. If thats too much machismo, then that's on me. But I have to see it all the time in the 3200 (the one event that gets mixed everyday everywhere across the country) and its weird. I feel slightly bad for the 8th grade boy gutting it out to make sure someone's little sister didnt pip them at the line. Not to mention it usually means the winning girl finishes in 3rd or 5th or whatever. Give them their own race.
It was a mixed race, the last couple of finishers in the heat were also girls. They set up the race this way so she would have competition to push her. And she crushed it! Watch the fist pump at the finish! She said afterwards it was the hardest effort she has ever put into a race, pretty obvious why.
Exactly. I used to race here in mixed races for the same reason. There were 2 hs girls here who were fast and who were good comp. Their coaches put us together for 2 years to give them a goal. They started off slower than me, 2 years later one of them beat me, the next year she went to college and the other girl beat me! The year after that the second girl went to college in hurdles.
Also as a young geezer I raced various mixed races with college women who were back for the summer. Good times👍
MBP has some real work to do. Like many have pointed out, she is old-school naturally fast—which will get her only so far. Hopefully she doesn’t end up another Boling and stagnate in her form. I guess she wants to do the whole college team thing, so serious tearing-down and rebuilding of her form might never happen—not now, because she has to qualify for college, and with these times, she can…and not in college, because the ridiculous coaches need points asap.
Her best bet might be to stay private, get her Danish citizenship if possible, and get them to sponsor her training with h a real coach eg in Fla like many internationals do.
otoh if she has half a brain she will focus on academics instead and ditch the mess that is t&f. I get it, she loves track. Believe me, I get it.

Her 22.7 into a serious hailstorm is at least as impressive. If she has any kind of hops then she looks she could crush it in multis.
Yeah, she's a big girl and with that natural speed, could be an absolute beast in the multi-events. No way she wouldn't about break the scoring tables in at least the 200, 100h, long jump and could learn the rest.

Very excited to see her progress! Agree she could be solid in multis as well. Throwing events could be great. Wasn’t there a mid-d runner who won the mile and the discus at her state meet? Her name escapes me at the moment. I want to say Elle Donohue?
Erin Donohue (born May 8, 1983) is an American athlete who competes in middle-distance track events. Donohue qualified for the U.S. Olympic team at the 2008 Summer Olympics in the 1500 meters. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvan...
I have met MBP (and her family) many times. She's at all the same meets my kids are at (same league). Mia is a super sweet kid, a smart girl, and has a really good training set-up right now.
She works with Ryan Bailey (Olympian) and his former coach, John Parks. It is a pretty idea training environment. She also has the Oregon 6A 400m champ on her team, so she has another girl to train with.
Lake Oswego isn't a private school and they don't recruit but it is a well-off community that has a lot of resources. Plus her family is really smart and supportive. And, not that it matters, but her dad is like 6'5.

I watched the U20 worlds last summer and she made the finals in both events as a 16 year old. She has already made some good progress from then. I don't see why people look at someone who is doing great and want to change their event.
Yes, Ryan Bailey. But unlike Letsrun, real humans are complex and stories are two-sided and complicated.
2017 - Bailey took a supplement in January that included dimethylbutylamine, a banned stimulant that has been shown to raise blood pressure. The American Arbitration Association said Bailey had a “light degree of fault” when it ruled this year his suspension should be for six months, after accepting his explanation that the positive test was triggered by his usage of a high risk dietary supplement.
Mia is a young kid and PEDs would destroy her health and future; everyone in her camp knows that. There is nothing like that going on at all.

Your attempt to appropriate the moral high ground falls flat.
Bottom line: he was found to have been at fault—if not for malfeasance, then for irresponsibility.
Kids are important. There are plenty of people around who are at least as helpful as he is, and who have NOT demonstrated a similarly actionable degree of irresponsibility in the very field in which he is giving advice to a minor.
These types of situations exemplify how the current system is a joke. There are no “sides”, and it isn’t complicated. It is not a balance-of-convenience test. The balance of consideration between Bailey and the welfare of a minor should result in every consideration being given to the welfare of the minor, and none to Bailey.
Yes maybe he is locally the “best qualified” by other standards, and maybe her parents think that he is best for her, all things considered. I do believe that the parents’ decision should carry the day, within the limits of decency, safety, and the legal options available to them. IMO Bailey should not be one of those options, unless all he is doing is providing to kids, under supervision, his experience and advice on how they might avoid similar failure.

I don't disagree with you that this is a tricky situation. But I don't believe that people should be canceled for life for things like this, especially since it was ruled to be negligence and not malfeasance. I think they are very aware of the importance of avoiding supplements like these... well, I assume they are!
As for Bailey, I think he is there to coach sprint technique and the head-coach and family are in charge of everything else (travel, scheduling, long-term planning, diet, psychology, etc.) That is how it seems to be set up. But what do I know, I am just an onlooker to the whole situation.
