Puts them 3rd & 4th in the US in 2023 on record eligible courses. 7th & 8th when you add in Boston. 2:10 gives you a shot at making the Olympic team. Kibet ran 2:09 @ Boston last year & is 3rd on the Trials seed list.
FWIW they both went through halfway in 1:04:13. Very few in the US can hold that back to back if they get in the right race on the right day. They fell off a little but 2:10 is still plenty respectable.

I am replying to myself because I think it is important to add that "American" isn't an ethnicity. The work of Luigi Luca Cavalli-Sforza supports the idea that some nationalities are also ethnicities (Italy would be an example). You can be ethnically Italian or an Italian citizen (or both) but you don't have to be both. America is different because we simply don't have (and never have had) one ethnicity.
Simbassa has been tearing up the road scene for a while, not surprised to see him run a good marathon
2:10 is good?
Biya has a 27:45 10,000m PR and 13:20 ish 5,000m (pre super spikes so don't give me those excuses). He has run 60:37 half marathon. This was his first ever marathon and he runs 2:10:35. I wouldn't be shocked if he runs a 2:08 at some point. When you limit to three runners per country, someone running 2:08 will have a very good shot at top 10 at the olympics. Jared Ward was top 10 in Rio and his lifetime PR is 2:09 AFTER the olympics, so he was top 10 with an even slower PR.
We don't need a post about super shoes every single time someone runs a great time/race. They're here to stay. Why keep arguing about it?
It is not an argument, it is giving context to the performance. Normally, race times gradually get faster and over decades the mentality of a "fast time" shifts. With the shoes, marathon race times shifted by 2min in almost instantly but people's perception of "fast" reacts slower. On the track it shifted 3-5sec per mile instantly. Breaking 4, 13:30, 28, 2:10 just don't have the same value anymore.
Good for these guys running 2:10. Something to be proud of, but not on par with Ward, Shorter or pick any other pre super shoe 2:10 runner. Meb broke 2:09 once in Boston but had a stellar career. Today his times are irrelevant and he was in the 2016 Olympics.
Debut marathon for Simbassa? That's a good sign, considering his 1:00:37 HM, that he can slice some time off. Not sure about Kibet, as he's already 39 yo, but a great time for him.
Both Kibet and Simbassa run for teams in Czech Rep. Kibet runs for Prague Airport and Simbassa for another team. Not sure how many Euros they get?
