This is why you let the doctors, not the athletes or the coaches, make the decisions whether to run.

I'd favor a lot of intensity year-round and running three races at championship meets.
Pain and general discomfort are a routine presence at the college level and beyond, and the lines between ‘pain’ and ‘injury’ are often very fine. Some athletes simply like to compete.
