Gregory is out for the season with a navicular stress fracture. The article says it happened during the mile final, but wasn't she already injured during the dmr?

thats unfortunate. wish her the best with recovery. something like that during indoor realy sucks.
what is her eligibility looking like?
I think tmshe is done. The article says she will turn pro after this season. I wonder which team she will go to?
HOKA NAZ Elite seems like a good fit. She could stay on the track, move straight to the roads or even hit the trails. The next Courtney Dauwalter?
After following much of the action in Albuquerque, watching Gregory nearly run herself into the ground, this announcement is surprising only because it wasn’t dropped a month ago.

Weird that the article is more than a month old but news of Gregory's injury didn't spread until now. She's not very active on Instagram and doesn't have many followers, possibly due to a strange user name. No mention of the injury on her Instagram.
This opinion piece says Gregory is going to sign a pro contract enabling her to run track and also mountain race. She heard the bone pop during the final meters of the indoor 1500. The navicular snapped in half. Gregory had the same injury to the other foot in high school:
To win the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship for the Arkansas women last March, senior All-American Lauren Gregory ultimately sacrificed her final Razorbacks Outdoor season.
I saw this coming. Rule 1 of distance running: never race injured. It can make a small problem 10x worse; if you have an injury where you could be out 1-2 weeks, then you went on raced on it - well, in the heat of the moment with your adrenaline pumping, you could now be out 10 weeks instead.

I understand wanting to race in the mile finals, but severing your navicular OMG. Breaking her foot like that is pretty serious. I hope she makes a full recovery, but I would be surprised if she will be ready to race USATF this summer.
Hoka NAZ like another poster said sounds like it could be a fit. Krissy Gear (her former teammate) is there and it is at altitude

What do you mean by the above bolded statement? She ran the mile and the DMR at Indoors. That is not at all unusual for a collegiate athlete, so how is that “running herself into the ground”?
Navicular stress fractures and the pain get worse over time. Gregory had already suffered from it in her other foot so she likely knew what it was. She ran the meet not just the 1500 final with the stress fracture getting worse and worse.

Some of you keep saying she ran the 1500 at indoor nationals, but FYI it was a mile, not a 1500.

It was reported(?) At the time or through interviews that she had already been having a 'foot issue' during indoors, maybe even prior to the championship. It did not suddenly appear in the mile final. I am trying to find the references online.

That's correct. She had a foot problem prior to the indoor national championship, but she decided to run anyway.
Sometimes that type of gamble pays off, and sometimes it doesn't. In this case, it ended up being some of both. She did help her team win the team title, but it cost her her outdoor season.
I'm sure she isn't happy about the injury, but she does seem like a team player, and without her points Arkansas wouldn't be the national champions. Does she regret helping her team win a national championship? I doubt it.

It helped Lance Harter win a team title, and probably cost Gregory some money and opportunities if she wants to run after college. It's disingenuous to act like college athletes are making totally unbiased decisions without any external pressure from coaches when considering to continue a season vs shut it down.
