Uh , what about Richardson being vilified for testing positive with a bunch of long threads and Tars gets squat?
Discussion?
I’d say that was more about the person behind the positive, rather than the positive itself. One is abrasive and off putting while the other seems like a genuinely good human being. That said, about 90% of the city of Austin would test positive for thc if you tested them all today.
Ironically, the Reggae Festival was this past weekend in Austin.
While I understand everyone's metabolism is different and could filter out the THC from the body at different rates, I wonder if anyone has figured out what the average time buffer period an athlete could have between their last high and before a competition (where you would most likely have to take a drug test)? WADA isn't going to drop marijuana from their drug lists anytime soon (there was no headway on it after Sha'Carri's test and subsequent ban, and she's a bigger name in the public than Tara) so athletes will either need to a) stop smoking or b) time their hits right to avoid a positive test.
I’ve passed a drug test while smoking modest amounts of weed, meaning it is possible to pass if you take a few one hits a day, even the next day. There are 10 percent less suicides in states with medical marijuana, that in itself (common sense) should end bans.
This is so dumb. Just make I legal already. I cant stand Shacarri because of her antics, but she never should have been suspended. The rules need to change
Would bet my next paycheck the people in here who have a problem with how Shacarri Carrie’s herself vs Tara are insecure white dudes thinking people should act in a way that makes them feel comfortable.
It says the test was after the competition. (Actually it says she won shortly before the test was conducted.) What does 'shortly' mean in this case - minutes, or the next day? I could see toking up to celebrate the W and if that was the case, why the retroactive loss of the title?
"After the competition" in the case of a USATF national championship means going from the finish of your competition straight to drug testing.
So Tara wasn't busted for using marijuana to celebrate her win. She had marijuana in her system while she was competing.
You can have weed in your system, it just can't exceed WADA's threshold. A lot depends on the potency (THC) and how often you smoke. A person who smoked one joint a week before a test is unlikely to get popped. However, for a regular smoker, weed is very risky because it 'can be' detectable in urine for several weeks and even months in the blood and hair follicles. And, all of the stuff that used to work back in the day like using fake genitals and drinking tons of water don't work anymore. Btw, being stripped of a national title is significant but as others have stated the rules are the rules.

Marijuana should remain a banned substance. It can mask the usage of other illegal substances, making it even harder to detect drug cheats.
Tara's father posts here under the name track life. Maybe he can provide more information.
Given that a couple of months ago she was talking about how unfair the wherabouts system is following Scantling's ban, this isn't a good look and shows a wider lack of respect for anti-doping measures.
Whether or not it should be banned isn't the point - for so long as it is you play by the rules set. A lot of people don't like 0.1 as a cut-off for reaction times, but that doesn't mean one athlete should be allowed to get away with a faster time just because they think it's unfair.
Richardson has become a folk hero after her ban. Your arguments about her and her use are old and tired. Nearly two years removed from when they were relevant. You smoke weed because you like to smoke weed. All these excuses and nonsense comparisons to alcohol are boring.

Jeff Novitsky stated that for a pro athlete they need to stop using THC about 40 days out from a competition
I'm still a bit baffled by the amount of people who don't understand how it can be used as a PED
Having weed on the banned drugs list is so stupid I can't stand it. It's not a PED, and it's invasive for anti doping to be testing for this.
Tara is not a cheater for doing this. So there's that.
But what she did IS annoyingly stupid. You can disagree with a rule but still follow it. It reminds me of what happened to that guy a while back who "retired" but never filled out the paperwork and then was banned for taking a drug to muscle up. Like, fill out the paperwork! Don't smoke weed! Follow the rules!
All right. I'll bite. How can pot be used as a PED?
i'm not sure the exact mechanism/pathway, but assume it has something to do with dopamine having the ability to increase kinesthetic awareness, proprioception, and general inner awareness. before anyone balks at this, remember thc is used for people with parkinsons and other lack-of-muscular-control diseases so that they can move better.
essentially, over time one can learn how to move substantially better
in competition it should theoretically only be advantageous for sports/activities where moving better outweighs the aerobic cost of having increased blood pressure and heart rate that comes with ingesting thc
so you'll see it used heavily in-competition with sports like basketball, football, and other anaerobically dominated sports
aerobically dominated sports like distance running you'll see it used out of competition with success
sprinters, long jumpers, pole vaulters, throwers could potentially benefit from using it in competition.
Waiting for Emmanuel Acho to educate us all on the dangers of JUI. He was a hearty advocate for Javelin-ers not getting high and throwing spears, that's unsafe. Can't wait to hear his take on gettin' high and jumping into sand
