Can someone explain why the Young's can't race at Arcadia?

Clearly they have the talent to get there, I’m just referring to their first year.

Stanford was favored to win last year, but they really only went 5 deep, then Sprout was hurt, and a couple guys didn't run well at nats and that was that...

Freshman don't always pan out, but I think you can pencil in the youngs for at least depth at slots 6&7. I'm sure in addition to fast HS times, NP Track club will work on transition to college mileage.

Even Colin Sahlman, who was supposed to red shirt, stepped in due injuries and made top 7 for NAU.

That's not true. Sean Brosnan became the college coach at UCLA several months before Lex and Leo chose Stanford.

Sean Brosnan took the UCLA job in August. National signing day wasn't until November 9th. So Lex and Leo could have signed with UCLA if they had wanted to. They just just preferred Stanford, that's all.

Yes they made a verbal commitment to Stanford before Brosnan took UCLA. Of course they could have went to UCLA and they still technically could. At the end of they day the Young’s are sticking to their commitment . Nothing wrong with that and it seems to be working for all parties involved.

Stanford could have a the worst coach on the planet and they will continue to get top recruits. Parents and will sell their soles to the devil to just tell friends their own kids attend Stanford.
Not everyone falls info the Stanford trap, but some do.

The Youngs will not be in the top three at Stanford as freshmen with three sub-13:20 guys already on the team, but they should be top seven and might make top five, which is hard but doable for them, considering that Lex ran 7:57/13:43 as a high school junior and the other took 16th at World Junior XC (an event that a 3:31 Ingebrigtsen took 12th at years before). They have a very good shot at a xc team national championship, if none of the three top Stanford guys go pro this year; they get a superior education and connections; they get superior facilities and places to run; and they get far superior training partners. Being coached by Sean Brosnan is just giving them the continuity of having him coach them for all four years of high school (and more directly than in the fall, I presume).
