It is very sad news because of such a great career. I think it was perhaps out of need to perform well now to get back into game. Because last few years he was struggling to have his normal shape. I do think he was clean all his life but he made a bad choice and didn't believe that he can be as good as he was before. Also perhaps pressure off fast times and other people using that lead him into the wrong road. Very sad ending because he was well respected and was one of the best in the game.

Wow. Was it him or Jake or both who condemned the prevalence of doping in Kenya? He or they were right but what a hypocrite! How do you go around for years prating about the ills of racing dopers and then join them (or maybe always be one of them?)? Eight years sounds much deserved with the cover-up.

He and his brother left NZ as teenagers wanting to be elite world distance runners. They went to Kenya to live and train then ended up in various parts of the country/training camps as well as being separated when one of them ended up in Ethiopia.

While there I am sure they were exposed to all the sh-t we know happens in Kenya with respect to doping. Easy access to pharmaceuticals, little to no out of competition doping control and seeing how easy it was to get away with.

At this point what do you have to lose? Really? Roll the dice like the masses of Kenyans do. There is basically no incentive to not cheat - you get caught and so what, you aren't in NZ where even if you were nobody cares because you aren't an All Black rugby star.
