That race was amazing to watch. Otherworldly! A ninth grade kid against national championship level seniors, first falling way behind but then turning on the burners to catch up and destroy.
That's the previous heat. Wilson's race is actually at 9:48:59. What really impressed me about him was not just that he looks his age but that he ran a really smart race. The leaders got out sub 22, he hung back, and then he smoked them in the last 100m. He'd make a great 800m runner as well. Reminds me in terms of level at this age of William Reed, a Philadelphia phenom back in the late '80s, who was running 47 as a frosh while holding his breath. This was 46.67 indoors, which is particularly impressive, a 0.7 s drop as well. I would not be surprised to see him break 46 outdoors.
He's had an impressive freshman indoor campaign. Multiple freshman class records. 300: 34.11, 400: 46.67, 500: 1:02.63, 600: 1:17.80. Plus, like others have mentioned he looks young. He looks to have lots of room to grow and develop.
I've had the privilege of knowing and working with this young man for a few years. He is 100% the real deal. Straight A's, yes sir/no sir all the way, respectful, kind to everyone around him, and a great leader. I honestly can't say enough good things about him. He is maybe 5'8" and hasn't hit a growth spurt yet, so there's more room for physical improvement.
It's easy to throw something like this around, but I've believed for a while that he is the future face of USATF.
Random fact: He went to the same middle school as Grant Holloway (Great Bridge Middle School in Chesapeake, VA).

He split 33.83 at 300m in his 400m. I wonder if that can be used for record purposes.

Interesting that his 400, 500 and 600 all line up for equivalence, and all better than his 200, indicating yet another stamina-based long sprinter. Not surprising considering his second 200 v. the power-based boys.

Thanks for the input - he comes across as a great young man. I was wondering how tall he was. Gives me Renny Quow / Luguelin Santos vibes who ran more even splits due to their height. If a growth spurt hits, oh man... you might be right.
If he is still 14, he might have a world age record even including outdoors. Almost certainly indoors, regardless. Insane. We need more info on this kid.
Oh, BTW the age 14 listed record is 46.96 by none other than Kirani "King" James!
He's 15. The age 15 world record is 45.27 held by Christopher Taylor. Taylor , 23, was 6th in the 2021 Olympics and 7th and Worlds last year. Taylor's pb is 44.64.

It is pretty apparent to be a WR for age 15 indoors...probably by quite some margin, though Taylor's outdoor record is way out there. We'll see what outdoors brings for Quincy. This was his first time under 47.
