I read that Cousins has eaten more salary cap space from 2018-2022 than any other player -- nearly $140 million.
In those five seasons, only twice did the Vikes win more than eight games -- 2019, and 2022. The 2019 team didn't win their division, but did win a wildcard game.
The 2022 team finally won the division, but lost their playoff game to the Giants.
Not exactly what they expected from such a massive investment.
What are the options if Lamar walks? Some scrub qb. Pay him
That's the Ravens advantage, they have a great young backup they are happy to roll with, Tyler Huntley. Same type player as Jackson, better passer, better intangibles, slower runner. Due Jackson injuries, he already has plenty of game experience.
If Lamar did not use an agent, this makes no sense to me.
My close law school friend is married to one of the better agents out there, a practicing lawyer who fills the role of a full time agent. It is quite certain Jackson knows him as he is prominent in the African American community and the NFL (he has a diverse set of clients, though) and structuring a deal to be tax preferred and long term revenue based could easily pay for itself in terms of agency costs. This agent started out life as a tax and corporate lawyer for a big firm in NY and his skill is what you need when going up against the legal and financial talent the teams send to the table. This is not meant to make a sweeping conclusion about Lamar Jackson but representation in this context just works out better for the athlete. In his defense, Jackson seems to have some leverage here in the immediate as the alternatives at the position for a typically well run franchise are not on the horizon. But the leverage does appear to run out - not great for a long term deal which in the NFL is a way to beat the odds.

This will be even funnier when 37 yr old Aaron Rodgers comes down off his ayhuasca trip, decommits from the Packers and he and Lamar are both basically available at the same time.
I guess it would be even funnier if we found out that Aaron was 37 years old.
Aaron is 39. Some folks just don’t rely on truth. Like the OP. I don’t trust these people.
3. Lamar is betting on himself which shows confidence and self-trust.
Didn’t he bet on himself last year and had mixed results?
He turned down a contract extension before the season, betting his 2022 results would yield a bigger pay day.
He lead his team to the playoffs but missed the end of the season and playoffs due to a minor injury.
This is one year after he was injured and missed the last three games of the prior season.
I like him and see him as a game changer when he’s on. But I wouldn’t pay him big money to come to my team. Not a mobile qb that had leg injuries to end consecutive seasons.
The Ravens reluctance when it comes to Lamar may be due to the fact that he is a running quarterback in a league that is absolutely to brutal to these types of players.
Lamar is sturdier than, say, RGIII, but management may want to hold off on a long-term contract due to Lamar's physical wear and tear.

Yes this makes sense but OP decided to go after a black QB’s intelligence because it made him feel good.
Cowboys problems would be solved if they released Dak and Zeke. Eating too much cap space and their production is a result of a good offensive line, therefore a replacement would put up similar numbers.

You realize this furthers my point, right?
Old 39 yr old Aaron Rodgers will get a deal done (with another team), while dummy Lamar will end up making well below market rate for a QB, failing to reach a deal in free agency.

Aaron already has a deal though. So does Lamar now.

OK you say with another team. I am not sure what will happen with Aaron. How are you so certain?
Carr was smart going to nfc. Qb's are worse in nfc. He will be motivated. The Saints will win their division. Rodgers to the Jets? Raiders and Miami also looking for a qb.
Ryan Fitzpatrick is a very intelligent QB, he has the highest test score, out of the Ivy League. Now compare his college/NFL numbers to that Heisman winning/NFL MVP winning Lamar Jackson. Look at comp%, yards, TD/INT ratio, passer rating, of course the rushing it's all Jackson and not really close. Playing QB isn't about how smart ya are it's about how good are you at playing QB.
Jackson is an amazing athlete and his stats back that up, career comp% 63.7, passer rating 96.7 that is great stuff. Look at our Ivy Leagurer at 60.7 and a wimpy 82.3. But he is smart, so what big deal.
Lamar Jackson Heisman winner, NFL MVP, multi millionaire, but bet he has never heard of John Steinbeck or Sinclair Lewis or Zane Grey, hell....James Baldwin, Richard Wright, Ralph Ellison.
Jackson will come out of this just fine,
