Jepkirui just closed her final 200m in 30.51! WHAT the?
Great performance, she lead wire to wire. There were 4 other runners in her heat that closed in 31s, and one didn't get in through small q. They should have pushed the pace a little more maybe. Excited for the final!

It was pretty slow for 1st 1000 - I think it was slower than first 1000 of ncaa xc championship

Agree with both of you. I thought they were barely going to crack 5:00 for a while there. Then BAM the hard close.
Yeah, but 15:41.7 is currently #16 NCAA. I just don’t see that happening here today.
Big12s are not the place for fast times. The mid-D runners have heats and finals in 2 days (600y, 800m, 1000m, Mile, DMR, 3000m, 500m..). It’s a crazy schedule. OKState also have gone from sea level to altitude in Lubbock (it’s not high, but definitely makes a big difference if you’re coming from sea level. Big12s are fun, but the aim is to score for the team, not times.
I just don’t see the point in why she ran it that way. Obviously she was just going for the win, and not a national qualifier, so why expend so much energy?

Maybe she'll comment on this in a post-race interview.
