When athletes barely through puberty are running as fast as former Olympic champions it is yet another reason why nothing in elite sport can be trusted. It seems Kenyans aren't the only runners now with a "natural genetic advantage".
That's obviously a false analogy as Centro was clearly not same runner that won Oly Gold.
Ryun beat Snell less than a year after he won Gold. Does that mean Ryun was doping? There are a lot of people who think that with modern shoes and professional pacing he was capable of low 3:50s in HS. I don't know anything about this Aussie kid but there are actually athletes with a "natural genetic advantage" and I will reserve judgement until there some more evidence.
I wasn't comparing him with Centro. We are each entitled to an opinion but I don't buy that that training explains how a 16 year old is almost as fast as Snell and Elliott were. Those champions were expertly coached and trained hard. But they were barely faster than a schoolboy today who is just in the other side of puberty, as I said. But he isn't the exception - which makes sense in an era rife with pharmaceuticals.
He's coached by dick Telford who also coaches Rory Hunter and Jye Edwards. I can't speak for the specifics of his training but it's all on Strava. He does 80-90km/week so hopefully conservative
Man that’s a crazy time for a high school junior. Great run by the young Aussie!!
Although it may be worth mentioning that the train to McSqueezeville was rolling along and all he had to do was hop on. So some fortune went his way by getting into a race for such a fast time too (when comparing his 3:55 to other age group performances).

I think difference from this to say Sahlman getting dragged along to 3:56 is that Sahlman got 2nd to last (Rip Clayton Murphy). This kid was super close to the front even if he had no chance of winning.
Part of it is the difference in race quality with Bowerman mile being more competitive, but I think this one shows more of an ability to push into the pack rather than hanging on.

Far from perfect conditions though. It was quite windy if you look at the sprint and long jump results. 1.5-3 m/sec.
You are a broken record. And now you are implicitly accusing a minor of doping.
You know he can't be doping? You are aware that doping occurs in college sports?
How sad and pathetic. A person has an outstanding result and the first natural reaction of some people is to immediately find fault in others successes and cast doubt. Perhaps you should have accomplished something significant yourself and not left unfinished business in your life tarnish your view of others accomplishments. Just climb in the grave now. That’s a sad, sad existence.

It also, Mr. Misanthrope, makes sense in an era (since the advent of the popular rise of the Internet) with vastly improved communication about training and much earlier specialization in running - along with improved shoes, nutrition, tracks, pacing lights, pacers, lactate meters, heart monitors....
