Look, Brosnan faces a lot of criticism because he is proud of his results and isn’t afraid to tout them. If he was coaching a ball sport, people wouldn’t blink.
Despite his bravado and his haters, he gets results. Most of the team has been on the UCLA roster for awhile. So you can’t chalk it up to recruiting either. He inherited these athletes. What they are doing this year is great. So it isn’t just a matter of having talented athletes carrying him—UCLA has always had those athletes.
I don’t even think the times are what is most impressive. It is the way they COMPETE. Most are a factor in every race they are in. It is the attitude that has changed. They are heading towards even bigger results in the future because of it.

Quantify why the results are great. How do you say they COMPETE better than previous years?

Staggs best last year was 4:01.43. He is now 5s faster (3:56.4)
Jai Dawson was running 4:09.5 (1600m) last year. He ran a 4:02.5 mile today (at Husky, not BU)

So he got a 1:49 800 high school runner to 4:02 in college and his best miler is almost as good as the kids from MIT and Drake. Yeah, that’s remarkable.

Yes, he should apologize for not bringing a 4:01.4 guy to sub 3:55 in 5 months
He should also be embarrassed that he brought the women DMR team from 76th last year to 2nd this year. They didn’t even break the NCAA record. Lame.
How much time does he need to make this team #1? My patience is running out.

Uh, Mia Barnett brought them to 2nd this year. By the way, they won't stay at 2nd.
3:55 is good, but to have one guy run that fast hardly justifies jumping up and down, claiming greatness.
Listen, not saying the guy is a chump, but UCLA is not drastically better than they have been in recent years. He may have some kids improve, some will regress, but he is not going to turn UCLA into a distance power.
I see the legs were 3:23.0/52.7/2:04.3/4:34.5 The last 3 are good especially with the big lead they had. Barnett ran 2:14/2:20. She can probably get faster. The lead leg was 0:68/0:68.7/0:67.3. In the crowded faster NCAA field that runner better be able to get out faster and run at least the same time (altitude adjusted of course).
True but with all the time chasing going on by Washington and other teams racing weekly they should shut it down and let altitude crush their opponents and bring the bruins a rare title and be fresh. They can chase other goals outdoor. Got to our themselves in a position to win it all and no one beating tuohy in the mile. They need 4 fresh bodies.
UCLA throws down a 10:54 DMR is something I didn’t have on my bingo card. George, Jendrezek, Pittman, Barnett. Brosnan strikes again!
Nice result... George ran a nice opening leg and is running about where she was last year. Pittman split 2:04 which is about her PB maybe a click faster so nice job there... Barnett made a huge difference.

Can the UCLA men also qualify for NCAA?
School record is 9:29. They will probably need 9:24 to qualify
They have:
Mile: Staggs (3:56.4) - school record by 4s
400: Turner (46.05@) - school record
800: Dawson, he has a 1:49.3 PB in HS last summer and has a new 4:02 mile PB
1200: Herold (4:01.7 ran the day after running a 13:42 PB, which is UCLA #2 all time. He ranks 7th on UCLA all time list in the mile)
They have a school record in them. 9:24? I see that they have Alex Wilson invite on their schedule. Are they entered in the men DMR?
