Why do people always change the subject to 1500m in threads about the mile?
Because the world doesn't run the mile. Hodgkinson broke the all time mark in the 600. Does that mean she is the fastest middle distance runner in history?
Tuohy is an outlier in the Mile in US distance. I believe she will transition to the Mile after college. So much potential as a middle distance runner!
What kind of 400m speed does she need to be world class 1500m running? I’m thinking 55-ish. What can Tuohy run for the 400m?
Really good but don’t forget the indoor mile isn’t that big of a deal. Outdoor mile or 1500m is more representative. But I do agree she is a bit like Cooper teare, a very good 5000m runner who’s even better and more promising at 1500m.

Unless they are running in u20 events while actually older, we should not care.
Anyone over 20 is in practice senior (despite college or u23 events) and can either go with the pros nor not.
I think it is as misleading to view Tuohy only in relation to US NCAA as it is silly to demean her performances because there are some faster international professionals of roughly the same (or a younger) age.

Tuohy will NEVER come close to matching Jenny Simpson's level in college or beyond. Touhy needs to match Jenny's PLACE at USA's and World Championships. Times don't matter now because shoes have changed that.
Jenny placed 9th in the Olympic Steeplechase as a junior in college. Her 3:59 was the 3rd fastest in USA history at the time. She placed 5th in the world in the steeplechase in the while still in college (2009 World Championships) and was the USA Champion in 2009. She set the American and North American record in the steeplechase while in college.
Tuohy is nowhere close to being a USA champion or 3rd All-Time. Tuohy will never medal at the Olympics or World Championships.
You are correct. The few diehard Tuohy fans are unaware of facts and if they are, they don't like them. Mary Cain was faster at 17 than Tuohy is at 20. Mary Decker was the best runner in the world at Tuohy's age. There are younger runners who ran faster than Tuohy. on the other end, Tuohy isn't close to national class. She is nonexistent when compared to world class. Those are all facts.
Tuohy seems to have peaked and is probably about as good as she will ever be. She evens seems to have digressed since the NCAA XC finals. There are multiple collegiate athletes that can beat her right now.
Valby would beat her at 3000 & 5000
Wiley would beat her at any distance less than a mile
Cook & Hutchins would both beat her at 5000
Also, that mile that she ran last week was soft. That record is not impressive. Wiley would have beaten Tuohy & Monson had she been in the same race.
How soft was Simpson's record if it stood for 14 years? That's a pretty hot take.
No NCAA champ ran close to that time in 14 years and Tuohy's time is #10 all time US on record legal tracks per USATF, #13 all time overall.
Maybe Wiley will break it at some point, but still an amazing effort by Tuohy.
All mile records are soft. 63 American women have run under 4:05.00 for 1500; Tuohy's best is only 4:06.84. The fact that her time is #10 US all-time is a product of how rarely the distance is run.
