800+ GOAT Augustine Choge will run a sub 2:15 eventually, considering he has ran two sub 60 halfs. His current PB was ran at joke course NY.
Not only has he ran sub 4, he has ran sub 3:30, sub 1:45, sub 12:55, and has ran sub 7:30 four times.
If one of those Aouita fans tries to dispute this, they have to explain why he never ran sub 12:55, ran sub 7:30 only once, and never ran sub 60. Obviously Choge is the 🐐
Kipchoge has the best range ever. 3:50 to 2:01. Bekele probably equivalent - likely would’ve run 3:50 for the mile as well
I would say that outweighs Farah’s 3:28 to 2:05
Given Dixon ran his times back in the mid 70s to early 80s I'd argue that his times rival those of Kipchoge's relative to two completely different tine periods.

Seems about right to me. Men's and women's WRs get closer together the longer the distance. If the 100k was a competitive event, we'd probably see times get even closer.

Your 2nd sentence, you must be discussing swimming. Freestyle 50m splash & dash to 1500m freestyle, women w.r. by percentage gets closer to men, event by event. We don't see that 100m dash, T&F to Marathon. Men Marathon w.r. is more than 10% faster than women Marathon w.r.
I definitely think that watching Wagwa try to do it in the 1980 NYC Marathon was instructive to some of us thinking that the skill set to run sub-4 and run a great marathon were completely different. Until dixon did it in 1983.

Malmo is totally right on this. Dick Quax ran 3:36/3:56/2:10:47 prior to Dixon’s marathon debut. Also, anyone with a brain would have known that Lasse Viren was capable of running well under 4 and considerably faster than his 2:13:11 marathon (which was run the day after winning 5k gold, having already won the 10k, when there were still 10k heats, for 5th place in the 1976 Olympic marathon).

I agree with this analysis. Dixon was a 1972 Olympic medalist in the 1500 and his best 1500 from 1974 was about 1.5 seconds off the World Record. He was ranked in the top three in the World three times in the 1500.
His Marathon best on a tough course was less than a minute from the World Record at the time.
