Colon cancer is the 2nd leading cause of cancer death overall in the USA with about 50, 000 deaths per year and a lifetime risk of 4-5% in both men and women. Most, though not all cases are preventable with appropriate screening. If you are 45 years old, get screened. Start screening earlier if you have a family history of the disease or other special risk factors. There are a number of effective options.
