Your first statement makes sense, but then you are just stating the obvious by saying she could transfer as a grad. She could also transfer as an undergrad if she wanted too. And even if she is a grad student next year, she may or may not wish to transfer as a grad student. The point is, whether or not she is a grad student, how does that factor into whether she transfers now, or later? I guess your answer is that you suggest having that BA degree from the Florida is so important? I personally find it less important, as well as all of the other academia banter on here. If a person is capable and hard-working, where the degree came from takes back-seat. But that’s my experience, coming from a technical field.

Covid has caused a situation where many athletes are sophomore athletes, but jr (sr) academic students. Some schools won't even take 3rd year transfers, but more importantly sometimes the way majors/graduation requirements are structured, the process isn't clean and student can lose credits and time. It's also comfortable to finish degree with advisor/department you know already.

It's not always that simple. In many cases not all of someone's undergrad credits will transfer. Transferring AFTER you get your bachelor's degree avoids that problem.

I know someone who finished their junior year, tried to transfer, and was told by the school she was transferring to that they would throw out all the credits from her junior year and she would have TWO years of school left to get her bachelor's degree, instead of just one year. Obviously she changed her mind and didn't transfer.

That all may be true for a typical student. But you seem to be glossing over the fact that Valby is a unique case, based upon her race results. That uniqueness is what makes her case of special interest, and would become less relevant if she had no aspirations of pro (or semi-pro) running, in which case, she would revert back to ‘typical student’ status.

No, that's not how it works. At all. The college someone transfers to will either take their undergrad credits or they won't, based on that school's policy.

It is true that I’m not versed on the intricate details of collegiate transfer. But you are very naive to underestimate the clout college sports pulls at some Universities. Just look at instances in the media regarding things that happen in college basketball.

First of all, track and field and cross country are NOT basketball or football.

Second, I have personally been involved in helping someone who was top 3 in the country in a distance event 2 years in a row try to transfer recently. And EVERY school she tried to transfer to made ZERO exceptions to their rules regarding which credits they would accept and which credits they wouldn't except.

That means she didn’t make the cut. There are many reasons that determine an athlete’s relevance to a particular program.

Take for instance, a Noah Lyles, an Athing Mu, a Sammy Watson, a Sydney McLaughlin. They did not have the NIL opportunities that may have kept them in school rather than going pro. You think for a minute, if they wanted to transfer to a program that wanted them, that the program would reject their previous credits, if that turned out to be a show-stopper?
