Jakob’s current 5,000m PB of 12:48 is over 30s faster than Hicks’. Nearly 30s faster than Nico Young. Jakob likely had a sub-12:40 in him this past summer. He’s a good cross country runner. He runs 110+ miles a week. He ran 13:02 destroying some of the best Americans in the spring at the end of a typical training week.
Jakob would’ve won nationals by 45 seconds with a lactate test of 2.7 mmol 5 seconds after the finish. Then he would’ve done PM 25 x 400 in 65 on the grass for a chill Double Low T Day
People like you and the clown who said Jakob could jog and win easily have no clue at all. Jakob could have probably won by 20-40 seconds but he would have been working extremely hard. Like almost as hard as he can go.
It is pretty clear that with all the hills, and grass that Hicks and Young ran something equivalent to a low 27 minute 10,000m on the track, like 27:0X. Its definitely faster than a tempo run for Jakob, but still quite comfortable. Jakob wouldn't be working "extremely hard" or "almost as hard as he can go" but of course this wouldn't be a jog either, he would have to deploy some effort, but he could definitely afford to take more drinks from the water stand than he did in the olympic 5000m final.

I am not sure if you read my post. I wrote Jakob would be working extremely hard to win by 20-40 seconds. Did you not catch that? You might have little experience with elite racing. Jakob could win without going all out of course but to win by 20-40 seconds alters the effort calibration significantly.
Would probably get off sofa after lounging there for two weeks then enter the race and win by two minutes even after stopping to grab drinks every lap.
Jakob wins no problem. Takes some breaks for water. Stops and signs some autographs. Catches up and tempos home for the win. Barely breaks a sweat. A training run for Jakob.
Wow you guys don’t know much about running. Jakob is a 1500m guy. He couldn’t just produce a winning 10k grass time in the middle of training. Give em a month. Absolutely zero chance he wins doing a hill workout and flying in the next day.
Is this a joke? The top 100 5000m runners from this year could win NCAA's with a side stitch.
interesting to know what the number would actually be.
my guess is 50 +-10, as in 10 people somewhere outside the top 50 probably could, and for ~10 people inside it depends on the day (including #49 nico young)
how many consecutive times could Jakob complete the 10k course w/ a 5 minute recovery while surpassing the winning time in each? I'm going to say 3 to 4.
How about he did a hill work out in flagstaff on Friday and had to fly in that night. Will u respond then?
How about if someone beat his legs unmercifully with a belt for 30 minutes prior to the race and he had to wear 1980's Converse high tops that are a size too small. Also, he has to scream, "HEE HAW" at least every 10 seconds or he's disqualified. Would he win then?
