Can someone explain when and why the tiebreaker rules was changed?
Not sure what you mean exactly. The NCAA used to just say that a tie was a tie (which is my preference). But very roughly ten years ago (? I think?) they decided to break all ties with their tiebreaker rule, which previously had only been used to determine which team(s) advanced from a Regional meet to Nationals.
AFAIK the NCAA has never used a sixth-finisher tiebreaker. If I'm wrong, I'll appreciate correction.
Whether true or not, it is TRUE in high school. WE seriously need to start examining what is true or false in the USA or we will have Anarchy!
