There was obviously a huge bribe involved in order for the World Cup to be in Qatar in November.
I mean of course - I just finished the FIFA doco on Netflix and it's exactly what you think it is. The most surprising thing is that people seem surprised at how blatant and obvious it was with Qatar in particular.
The best part is when Sarkozy (president of France at the time of the bidding) meets with Platini (head of UEFA at the time) and tells him to vote Qatar after he's clearly made a ton of deals with the Qatari government like purchases of multiple aircraft from Airbus etc - it's everything you would expect from sh$tty men in power.
Hassan Al-Thawadi (Secretary general of the LOC) is another classic, from an Oscar worthy performance involving tears as he talks about "depression" and "racism" experienced during the backlash of the decision to allow Qatar to host - even though they were far and away the least suitable venue as even outlined by FIFAs protocol, through to his blatant "give zero f--ks" attitude to the thousands of workers that died there trying to build 8 venues in 120 degree weather. But maybe the best part is him debunking all of the documented accounts of bribery and deals (like with Sarkozy), by simply stating "the facts are on the ground" angrily.
It's the pits. Love the soccer world cup but had little interest in the Russian hosted tournament and even less in this one.
