He wants to be the greatest American miler? He can’t get out of his own way, and he’s not willing to do the work to get there. He’s going to have to take a long hard look in the mirror and get serious, or he’s not going to come close.
I can't decide if Pete is a good coach or not. He's similar to Danny Mackey in that every time I'm ready to stick a fork in him as a coach, one of his athletes pulls something off and I start to reassess. I guess if you get enough talent
He had three athletes finish 6th, 6th and 7th at this years World Champs. Not counting Brazier (hurt) and not counting Klosterhalfen who just won Valencia Half and the Euro Champ 5k. Julian more similar to Schumacher (one could even argue Julian was better in 2022). Not similar to Mackey at all. Julian has had widespread success multiple years now.
I think in the cases of Brazier and Koko it is superior, outlandish talent and one could argue that both have been injured too frequently in the last few years not to give some blame to the coach. Rogers did quite well with Julian but was also very good before joining the group.
I'd say Hull and esp. in 2019 also Engels might be cases that show that Julian is not bad but at least decent because they were not such outstanding talents and improved/stabilized with him.
How much $$$ do you think Julian gets paid to do an ok job?
I would be willing to do the job for $100k / year (willing to negotiate), and will probably get better results. My boys’ squad are all 18:30 or better for 5k. Nike, contact me at hsxccoach@gmail.com
Here's what we thought of the change on the Supporters Club podcast on Tuesday. We didn't widely publicize it and asked the Supporters Club members to not post about it as Craig said he wanted to break the news.

Just going to conveniently omit Sinclaire Johnson, Shannon Rowbury, and Suguru Osako?
Again, the guy has had much more success than this board gives him credit for. Granted, he works for Nike and we all hate Nike, but Julian as a coach is quite good.
This is an Engels thread though and time will tell if Julian was ultimately good for Engels and at least kept him on the rails or he just didn’t ever connect with him.
What’s the average starting salary for a professional very likeable guy? Asking for a friend in Canada who is currently unemployed.
Is this what you tell people when they ask if you have any friends? "Yeah, but you'll probably never meet him. He lives in Canada. He's very likeable, though."
As for Engels, good for him. Seems like he needs to change himself more than he needs to change coaches, but at least he's got the change part right.
Look for Jon Rivera to join this pro group as well….Jon hurt his Achilles after the Penn Victories last year but I fully expect him to join this group.
also fully expect Baylor Franklin to as well when the season is over and eligibility has run out.
I have to admit I'm an Engels fan. Nice mover and has a kick. Made the World's finals with (what I assume) not particularly intense training. I think if he committed to a harder regime he could achieve his goals. I actually look forward to his progress with interest.
I think this is a really smart move for him, hopefully he can make a comeback this season. Never was a fan of Julian
wait what?? In order to make a comeback don't you have to be at the top of the game, then injured or something else, and then rise to the top again? I am missing his top of the game part of this equation
