"These inclusivity efforts mark a big transition following a tumultuous period for NYRR. In 2020, former NYRR CEO Michael Capiraso was ousted from the organization after allegations of racism and sexism surfaced, according to Runner’s World..."
How does creating a new category where it's pretty much guaranteed that the podium places and prize money will always, or almost always, go solely to male non-binary runners help to reduce sexism?
IMO, creating a new division that gives guys more - and much easier - chances of winning races and pocketing prize money seems like blatant favoritism towards males and sexist sex discrimination against females.
Also, I don't see how the non-binary category is gonna reduce racism, either. Seems like most males who "identify as" non-binary are white guys from the US (or UK) who hail from well-off backgrounds, attended elite colleges/unis and grad schools, grew up with plenty of "white male privilege" and hold a lot of what are wryly called "luxury beliefs."
There are some prominent guys of South Asian and Arab heritage who "identify as" non-binary nowadays, but they all come from very wealthy, privileged, upper-class families too. Adopting a non-binary gender identity doesn't seem to much of a trend - or a trend at all - amongst black males of any socioeconomic status in the US, Africa or anywhere else.
