"American Graffiti" has always been great. I think I've seen it a half dozen times. It helps if you grew up during the fifties and liked the soundtrack a lot. I started drivin' cab in San Francisco in '72. They were filming the drive-in scenes at Mel's on South Van Ness in '72 or '73. Of course I didn't know that at the time. The unknown (at the time ) cast: Richard Dreyfuss, Ron Howard, Cindy Williams, Suzanne Sommers, Charles Martin, Paul Le Mat, Candy Clark, Kay Lenz and Harrison Ford!
I thought "Billy Jack" was a really manipulative movie at the time. I hated it. Set the scene so that you rooted for violence. The more extreme, the better. Of course, since then there are hundreds of movies that do the very same thing. Violence on a small scale, like "The Godfather" works. A lot of violence, action and special effects are BORING!
Bridget Jones Diary. Saw with my mom in the theatre and we really enjoyed it. My mom literally laughed her head off. Saw again recently with my mom on her birthday and I cringed, she also thought it was awful. Of course your taste will change from childhood to teenage years till adulthood, middle age and old age.
The reason she didn't enjoy it so much the second time around is most likely due to the fact she no longer had a head
I watched Full Metal Jacket 25 years ago and thought that it kicked ass. I just watched it again this afternoon and was underwhelmed. A quote-factory for 13-year-olds.
And the opposite happened with One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. I saw that 25 years ago and thought it was ok. And I just watched it a few days ago and found it to be astoundingly good.
The original Star Wars films, IV, V VI.
got the vhs as a present when I was 7 years old and couldn’t stop watching them. They were magical.
just watched the first one again IV, and it was so boring. Didn’t have any of the emotional impact. The pace is slow. Even with forgiving the special effects, it is now forgettable.
I wish the news ones had the balls to take their time and not rush.
For me it’s definitely the first prequel, phantom menace. I thought it was amazing when I was 6, and I always thought it “wasn’t that bad” after seeing it a few more times in my youth. Watched it again recently and it’s one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen.
"Young Frankenstein" or any Mel Brooks movie are unwatchable now, even though 'Young Frankenstein" has a few good scenes and great cinematography.
One that has held up great is "A Streetcar Named Desire."
Young Frankenstein is still pretty good, IMHO. The same can not be said about Blazing Saddles, Space Balls, etc. Young Frankenstein works as a movie, not just as a parody.
1. If I watched the original movie at the time of its release I can rewatch with nostalgia and enjoy it
2. If I missed the movie the first time and try to watch it as an adult I often find them unwatchable.
it’s somewhat like religion. If you grew attending church you can always come back to it as a legitimate practice. if you just heard those biblical stories as an adult you couldn’t accept them at face value.
