You're the A. Never run the wrong way on a public track. But at the very least, move out to lane 8 so you don't disturb anyone.
⬆️ for some reason , xc-ers run clockwise , but I was always told to stay out of lanes 1-2 unless you're Noah Lyles.
"my watch was set to lane 1"?? So you're a triathlete, huh? Shouldn't you have 4 ounces of kale by 6:55?
Are you reading comprehension deficited? Who can’t even read and quote a small sentence correctly? The technology is called cut-and-paste. Very modern, very beautiful technology.
Doesn't matter if your watch is set to lane 2. Mine is typically set to lane 4, regardless of which direction I'm running. If I need to, I swing wide for the 30 meters or so that it takes to give someone else some comfortable space as I go by; that's not going to screw with your watch enough to matter. No one wants you in an adjacent lane, even if you're going the same direction, so move over for a little bit.
Track direction is always counter-clockwise unless posted otherwise. Some tracks (mostly indoor) will alternate directions during public hours, but this is posted VERY explicitly.
For a random outdoor track, you should run counter-clockwise if you are in an inner lane (1-3). If you would like to run clockwise, you should run on the infield or the outermost lane if there is someone else there. This is what I do if I end up doing my cool-down on the track or have a longer rest. In general during track use, you should always yield/give priority to people who are doing workouts.
It is dangerous and stressful for the person running in lane 1 (probably doing a workout), especially if it is dark.
Your def are a jerk for doing this... I would say the other guy is too...
I have been in a similar situation: If you are the only one running on the track than I see no issue running clockwise. I have done this a few times during marathon workouts (12-13 mile workouts).. but the moment someone else is running in lanes 1-3 I switch directions. one time a daughter and mother were walking in lane 1.. I didn't bother to switch directions since it was posted at the entrance that walking should happen in 4-6 (small public track). the daughter yelled at me despite me giving them plenty of space and moving out to lane 2 to pass... was I a bit of a jerk: yes and I knew it, but was a breaking the parks rules for the track: no. were they being a jerk: yes were they breaking park rules: yes.. in this scenario I feel like I was by far the more reasonable. I didn't say anything just continued on my day.. They drove off in their landrover after I had done maybe 4 miles of a 13 mile workout.
This story would be even funnier if it was like a concrete track or something. Everyone getting aggro and it’s a 268m concrete track with plants growing in the cracks in the lanes.
