I was surprised to read in the Teare thread that some don’t consider Letsrun to be real journalism. Personally, this is the only place I look for running info, especially during major championships. Citius, flotrack, runners world, runner space, etc. seem, for lack of a better term, hacky. Obviously asking on the Letsrun messageboard will lead to skewed response, but I’m curious where everyone looks for their running articles/news.
This is my primary resource for all things running.
well letsrun did journalism and broke a story that an athlete was joining a top program that we all follow... and the guy is mad but as a fan, I like that I can come here for info... and rumors are leaked her faster than other places... as a pro athlete to be mad that some news source actually cared enough to leak your switch - you should be happy that someone cared...
Yes, and I also rely on this site to find out when and how to watch major track meets and races. The TV/streaming info they conveniently provide is super helpful and saves me time from having to look it up. They make it so much easier to follow the sport.
Especially for major champs/meets, I don't even know of anywhere else that covers everything as in depth as Letsrun. Maybe WorldAthletics? But I don't think WA has close to the same level of analysis that LR has. Letsrun also has articles going back 15 years covering the sport. Citius is really good for hearing about a lot of athletes, but they're certainly biased in favor of those athletes. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but it's definitely not the same thing that LR does. Coffee Club is good for hearing about On stuff specifically and gives a ton of great insight into the ups and downs of pro running (and I think they broke the news on something within the last month or two), but it's definitely not journalism (probably my favorite running media though). Can't speak about the rest tbh.
I agree, and would include the 3x/wk flotrack podcast. Refreshing, funny, insightful and not nearly as obnoxious as track talk (the incessant mispronunciation of names, over-the-top USA cheerleading and implicit bias is not cute at all) and many threads.
When JG moves on, will many will follow him to wherever he lands and consult LR less frequently? Until then, this space is the place, sores and all.
God. Know. Gault is freaking terrible. not a journalist. 90% of his stories are watching meets on tv and writing about them. No real experience outside of this site.
too toxic and racist, sexist to be credible. Also no real news gathering operation
Some act like it’s a bad thing but the content aggregation is great too. One stop shop for links to other track and running news and stories. Rojo may be dopey but nothing is perfect.
Yes, nothing is perfect. I've been using Letsrun.com as my source of running news since around 2000. I used to enjoy fast-women.com, long defunct, and still enjoy Alison Wade's newsletter, but it doesn't provide anywhere near the complete and wide-ranging coverage that Letsrun does. If Letsrun were to disappear, I would probably stop following professional running because it would just be too much work. I follow a couple of other oddball sports - downhill skiing for example - and there really isn't a corollary for letsrun. We're lucky to have it.

Interesting or funny that you still come to LR, go through the message board and then even comment. There's something you're attracted to.
Yes. I am a track and field fan since 1968. Track & Field News subscriber since 1971. If anyone knows a better, more current running-news site, I have not noted it stated plainly in any comment above. Most of the boards are ignored by me, but for news and sometimes serious race discussions, this is the place. The live discussions of meets and races is great fun and enjoyable. The podcasts are fun and informative. Jon and the Bro Jos care about running as a sport. This matters to me as a reader. I am appreciative of Lets Run and all they do for our sport.
Primary source for sure. In addition to the points above, the Letsrun crew does a great job sifting through all the articles that are out there and highlighting the best one
