Putting people in actual prison for breaking a sports rule is stupid Frenchiness.
NOPe. They should be put into prison for theft and fraud, they should be stripped of all records and medals, they should be forced to compensate their victims.
You make very good points but this is a tough one to solve because with regards to being stripped of all records and medals it is difficult or even impossible to establish when she started doping and finished doping, and when she won medals in European championships, which was the case - was she doping at that time or after? We will never get the full story of this affair and judicial experts and judges have to make decisions which sometimes might not be fair for the perpetrator of the infraction.
Laila Traby, who now goes by another name I believe, has now divorced herself completely from athletics and pursues a career in aesthetics and hair dressing, according to reports.
She will not spend any time in prison because even in the worst case if she gets a one year prison sentence, it is what they call « avec sursis » which means she does not actually have to spend any time behind bars, but it is just a record on her criminal record sheet or what we call in France « casier judiciaire. »
However, once she has a criminal record, in France, she would be barred from many areas of employment such as education and other professions dealing with people. Aesthetics and hairdressing do not fall into those categories so she’s not concerned. At the end of the day, she just wants to make money for herself and her family. She was a talented runner from what we can deduce and it’s a pity that she took that decision to cross the line.

Who cares? She's lost the right to deserve the benefit of the doubt. And btw, most reasonable people can see that a convicted doper was likely to be doping when they set their records (pbs) and won their medals.
The reason World Athletics doesn't strip all medals and records of convicted dopers is because we would be constantly having to rewrite history, especially given the number of busts over the last few years as anti-doping tech is improving. I doubt if it has anything to do with giving convicted dopers the benefit of the doubt as to previous doping.

You make some very good points, and yes you’re perfectly right that it would be virtually impossible to verify the authenticity of many records in the past.
Rumors and innuendo do not constitute fact proof evidence.

In some cases, it isn't so hard to decide the punishment. For instance, if rupp ever gets busted for his doping, we can go back to the paper record of him being on illegal testosterone when he was 16, the hollowed out books containing dope, the bogus thyroid meds scrips, etc. Strip him of all benefits from when he was 16 until now, and make him compensate his victims. Same with Radcliffe and her illegal blood values, Mo and his dodging the testers' door ringing.
Cheating at sports is vile and needs to be treated as a felony.

Sir I can see where you’re coming from but to allege that Galen Rupp was doped up I don’t think it’s the way to go because there’s no proof that this was ever the case even though some people might assume that the way his coach Salazar tested him and pushed the limits of legality with regard to different tests as doping, which in fact it was not (proven).
Salazar was no fool and he knew exactly what the limits were for every feature of the tests which he performed on his athletes. Radcliffe and Farah came under suspicion in certain quarters but were never convicted of doping and so should be given the benefit of the doubt. There is no alternative really because if every person that we suspected of doping were convicted - that would also be grossly unfair.

What I mean to convey is that when these dopers get caught, we can refer back to the first evidence against them to set a timeline for record expungement and restitution. In the case of rupp, we have hard evidence that he has been doping at least since he was sixteen, and more evidence that his doping has escalated over the years. For Radcliffe, she should have been banned the second that her blood tests were revealed, and mo should have been banned the moment that he was caught peeping out the curtains at the drug testers then running to hide in his closet.
Since the anti-doping authorities are often easily corrupted and persuaded not to act, blatantly in the cases of rupp, Radcliff and Farah, legal authorities need to be brought in to prosecute these thiefs and fraudsters criminally.
Laila Traby (born 26 March 1979) is a French runner. She won a bronze medal at the 2014 European Championships in Zürich in the 10,000 metres event. Three months after the championship, she was found by police with EPO in her...
Laila Traby moved to France in 2005 at the age of 26 so she is certainly of Moroccan Heritage. She came from an ethnic group called the “Sahara people” sahraoui who were Bedouins in the desert in the south of Morocco, who felt ostracized by the mainstream population in Morocco and she felt discriminated against at the national sports center in Rabat and those facts and others persuaded her to try a new life in France. Morocco‘s loss was France’s gain until her career ended unfortunately with this doping conviction.
However, it appears that this former standout athlete is now satisfied with her life as a beautician in the south of France where she is most likely earning quite a bit more money compared with her career as a distance runner.
We feel sorry that she took that decision to cross the line and now she’s paying for it and the clock cannot be turned back. She should focus on her future and put that all behind her. France has given her a passport and access to all the advantages of living in France including assisted-living, healthcare, Social Security, unemployment benefit and many other things so in a way redemption has been achieved. She will never have to worry about putting food on the table in France because disenfranchised people in France and people who have no work will always receive Social Security as a minimum. The minimal revenue for a person without work in France is €585 per month and in addition if that person does not have a house or a place of their own they will receive housing assistance. Food banks are always available as well. For this reason, and others, France is a very attractive option for many migrants, especially for those from Francophone Maghrib countries.
This runner is almost "Polizario" runner and rejected her Moroccan Nationality years (if ever she had one).

Well it's noble that you always like to see the possibility of redemption in people Ghost1, but in this case it's a dirty drugs cheat who falsely accused her coach of rape in order to get away with it. I'd say society would be better served with her in prison for at least a decade, then put on the first plane back to Morocco.

Sir Coe/Ovett - you are confusing this X Moroccan (Laila Traby) with a French female steeplechaser by the name of ophélie Boxberger, and this is the person who accused her coach of rape.
Laila Traby never accused her advisor and coach of rape but rather put the blame on him for taking illicit products. It seems she was being disingenuous in court and she mentioned that as a “good Muslim” she could never do something illegal but those words may have been somewhat hollow in the ears of the castigating judges who were present at her sentencing and who subsequently decided to apply the law.
However, as mentioned before, a one year prison sentence with “sursis”, means that she will not do any actual prison time, so some people will reckon that she got off quite lightly.
Traby case: Although she probably did wrong, a decade in prison as you recommend is in my opinion, overkill to quite a high degree. That type of punishment does not fit the crime.

My bad, I should refer to Laila Traby as French, for all intents and purposes, even though she is a former Morrocan.
That runner is French. There is no mention of Moroccan nationality.
None of those are my screen names except what I am using here. Your anger blinds you:
”Traby began her athletic career at the Institute of Sports at Rabat.[3] She said her Sahrawi origins had not allowed her to progress in her birth country.[4] She accused the Moroccan Federation of athletics of depriving her of a selection to the Pan Arab Games in 2004 by adding a second to her qualifying time. She emigrated to France, undocumented, in 2005 and was naturalized in 2013.[4]”
