Fayetteville Manlius only has 10 guys on the team this year?

In his heyday Joe Newton at York had huge teams and they worked as hard as any team of whom I have heard .

Everyone at York ran around 19 minutes in this race. I don’t get what this was all about

Do you guys feel like the fm boys team is gonna start having incomplete teams?

only 1 freshman and 1 soph this year

FM boys team has some SERIOUS work to do if they wanna go to NXN based on the VVS results.

St Anthony’s put 5 guys under 16:32 at PTXC. Got some depth behind them too. Their 6th and 7th probably did not have a good day. That’s why depth is so important.

And we all know Corning will make it.

Yeah, they've got nothing behind their top three... top two, really, since their #3 is a full 2 minutes back of their #1. Almost lost to Webster Thomas. Kind of shocking based on past years, when they've always seemed to develop a guy or two out of nowhere.

Yeah like McGinn…going from midpack JV freshman year to #1 as a sophomore. I thought sophomore Ditre was maybe capable of making a big jump like that since both had similar freshman 1600 times. Instead he was their last runner, behind a guy who never ran before.

I was surprised with how far Otis was behind McGinn. Both were at the same level last year. And how far Perry was behind their #2. He was on varsity for them freshman year and ran a 10:03 last track season.

Daniel Patrick’s younger brother was actually better than McGinn freshman year but after sophomore XC season he started to fade. Actually, McGinn was only their #3 freshman.

Don’t forget FM was missing Weires from last year’s varsity. But this won’t help that much.

oh well it will be hard for them to qualify this year.

Corning should easily make it, and hopefully St Anthony’s keeps up their performance from today, improves from it, and peaks at NXR. If they do, they will go to NXN

But if you only have 10 guys on the team, it’s kind of hard to have someone come out of nowhere.

Well... Liverpool went to NXN a few years ago with 3 really good guys. So it's not impossible, in theory. But they appear a long way from that based on today.

McGinn seems to be on a very different level to start the year. I’m not sure what the speed ratings will look like for this because the times are really all over on both the guys and girls side, but Peter McMahon got a 187 speed rating for running 16:21 at sectionals last year. That would mean Otis is starting this year in the upper 180s and McGinn’s time would be upper 190s making him one of the best runners in the country. I’ve never seen FM with such a huge spread from 1-5 but if McGinn really is that good then it would make sense, it’ll be really interesting to see how Bange and the rest of Corning does out there.

Does anyone know if the course changed since last year?

There are things in between. It is hard to know what 24min kid as a freshmen will turn into a 16min runner as a senior when they grow 8" and put in some training.

If you have a pipeline where you are getting 3 sub 5 min milers coming in as freshmen every year, you can be really selective. Most programs though are always looking for that 5th man that is the difference between a good and great team.

McGinn will have an outside shot to be in the top 10 at NXN next year or maybe even win it. He will probably have to spend as much time as possible focusing more on himself next year rather than the team if he wants to win. He might as well do it next year because this team had only 4 nonseniors run today. They also have another freshman who didn’t run.
this team will be no good next year unless they can recruit 4 more studs.

No idea on the course... but assuming that McGinn didn't just pop something in the 200s, FM is going to have a varsity scorer in the 120s today. Hard to imagine.

Weires, the guy they were missing, ran a 142 last year. not sure how much better he can do this year.

Either way I think st Anthony’s will have 5 guys with WAY better speed ratings than FM’s #3. The only thing they don’t have but FM has is a low stick. But we can call all 5 of those guys “low sticks” since they were all below 16:32.

They did do better, but they both lost to Monroe-Woodbury.

I don’t see any of these 3 teams going to NXN this year.
I think Corning and St Anthony’s are the best 2 as of now.
Burnt Hills’s speed ratings first meet were in the 130s for their 3-4-5. But they only got 1 senior (and another senior who was missing) so next year looks good.

I already knew Saratoga Springs are deep, but they are even deeper than I thought they were gonna be. They had an 8th grader scoring, something unprecedented. No mansfield (who was scoring last year), and Blaisdell didn’t score like he did in the last meet.
Bernd was close to talarico last year. He probably has trouble getting back to where he was. But the thing is, they are getting rid of only 2 guys. Talarico is the only loss that will hurt a little but they lost Ryan Bush and they are a lot better now than last year. So next year I wouldn’t be surprised if Burnt Hills and Saratoga make NXN.
I think in 2024 New York will be really down after burnt hills losing many seniors, and FM probably not even having a complete team.
It looks like Saratoga could potentially be the best team in 2024 and probably be the class of the state in the years to come. They return the Pasek brothers, Isenovski, and Blaisdell. That’s a lot of talent. Just need to find another guy.
Depth seems to breed more depth, talent, and young talent at Saratoga. A lot of those guys want those varsity spots badly, even the youngsters don’t wanna wait till senior year because who knows what will happen to them.

Did you guys know that this is the 3rd consecutive year that FM boys team is not a top 2 team in New York?

The run was long gone. What a run they had though! A couple of podium finishes, including a national championship!

It sure was a good run!
