Mantz' NCAA elegibility was used all within 4 calendar years. This as opposed to 4 school years, which is 2-1/2 months short of 5 years. And certainly not a year more than that, ie. typical redshirt athlete.
Mantz didn't use the extra Covid year he had the option of using. Never was a super-senior. Or even a 5th year redshirt senior. Not for a single season.
Mantz broke no NCAA rules.
I don't like him and root against him just like I do for Rupp. Nevertheless, the above points are facts.

Conner Mantz of BYU was named the Men’s Scholar Athlete of the Year. Mantz, a senior from Smithfield, Utah, who majors in Mechanical Engineering, won the individual title at the 2021 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships in Tallahassee, Florida. He is the first male athlete to win back-to-back Scholar Athlete of the Year honors in cross country since Grant Fisher in 2016 and 2017.
