I agree with the second half, but I’m inclined to pick Martin, just because of that incredible solo 3:57. Sahlman has marginally better PBs but in a race I’m taking Martin every day.

Well, they have raced, and if you took Martin you would have lost both times. They raced at Brooks PR at 800m, and at RunningLane over 5k XC. Sahlman won convincingly both times. At every track distance, it would be close with about 100m to go, but Sahlman can finish a fast race better that any other current high school distance runner. This year, he would have outkicked Martin. No telling what the future holds though.
