The Larry Sanders Show
X-Files
The Americans
Homeland
If you liked The Wire, check out Homicide: Life on the Street, which I consider an even better series
Tucker Carlson
Succession
True Detective - Season 1 (The seasons don’t build on each other)
Severance
Mad Men
I agree with the other poster, if you’re looking for comedy:
Last Man on Earth
Arrested Development- Of course, one of the best comedies ever made.
The Loop
Wentworth Prison
Locked Up (Vis a Vis)
Spooks (MI-5)
Underbelly: The Golden Mile
Sorry, it's called Tales from the Loop.
Line of Duty
The 1990s and early 2000s had some pretty good TV series.
Xena, Warrior Princess
Hercules
Monk. Tony Shaloub won awards for his portrayal of Adrian Monk.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer. (Lots of symbolism here. College courses have been developed about the Buffy Universe. Monsters everywhere and the adults, town council, etc are clueless.) Read up a bit about the series before you watch and it will be more enjoyable.
Babylon 5. Outstanding character development between Londo and G'Kar. The Londo character starts out as the town drunk, but he is swept up into events over the years to become an outstanding tragic figure. The series is a little uneven because it jumped to another network and season 4 might have been the last season so the writers were jumping around from the main theme. Season 5 wraps things up nicely. Seasons 2 and 3 are great sci fi.
Deep Space 9. Quark is especially good. Avery Brooks is badly cast as the Captain. He e.nun.ci.ates every. word. when. he. speaks. or he shouts his lines like the Shakesperian stage actor that he was before being cast as the Captain on DS9. Read the episode summaries and skip the episodes that prominently feature Brooks. Fortunately, it's an ensemble cast so Brooks isn't at the center of every episode. Rene Auberjonois (Odo), Armin Shimerman (Quark), Terry Farrell (Dax) are great in every episode that they play a prominent role. Either of this actors would have made a better Captain, but then we would have lost their wonderful characters.
Mad Men. Roger Sterling had quotes
Westworld on HBO
If you’re semi into Star Wars, then the Mandalorian is pretty good
I second the Americans. So good!
Some British ones that are good
House of Cards (British with Ian Richardson as the PM)
State of Play
The Prisoner
The Prisoner is from the 70s is probably only available on YouTube. Patrick McGoohan played a James Bond type secret agent in a previous TV series and wondered what happens to these people after they retire. This, plus the belief that during the war retired Generals, Admirals etc were hidden away in a luxury holiday camp / prison to avoid their being kidnapped by the Germans, led to him creating this series.
The whole series takes place in this surreal village where no one knows who is a prisoner and who is a guard. Each episode portrays various attempts to break the prisoner and get him to reveal what he knows. Meanwhile the prisoner tries various methods to escape or at least find out who it is who has kidnapped him.
The only thing you know about the character is all in the opening credits, he resigned, was drugged and kidnapped and then woke in The Village. You never know his name and who kidnapped him only becomes apparent towards the end of the series.
The show is still ongoing, but bingeworthy for what's there...
Barry
It's on HBO Max where I see it, but Google tells me also on Hulu.
Lots of good recommendations in the thread, but one I didn't see was "The End of the F***ing World (https://www.netflix.com/title/80175722). Quirky, very well done.
Queen of the South
