so again put him with 21 point guys and he will run faster as well. got to love the worthless 18min 5k guys who ran at some low budget NAIA talking about results that just dont impress them lolz
I’ve checked a couple of online sources milesplit and athletics. From what I can tell those were his first 100 and 200 races ever. Plus he ran a 46 solo on the same night. That is CRAZY! I love everything about the kid. He’s definitely making things interesting.
I should clarify, I think his eventual medal potential is in the 1500
Definitely not, no, please just stop it. He's not a 1500 guy, he's not an 800/1500 guy. 4:12 is a great time for an 18-year-old but come on, he's 20 seconds off what the top guys run at that age and being "speedy" over 200 doesn't mean anything when you're not even on the home stretch by the time the race is over.
He has great speed for an 800 specialist and is way better at the 400 than the 1500, the 600 is probably his sweet spot now and he is more of a Donavan Brazier than Clayton Murphy archetype. Nothing wrong with getting in some 1500/mile races to work on tactics and endurance, but his eventual medal chances are in the 800 and anyone who thinks they are in the 1500 is completely clueless.
For comparison, Kratochvilova has had the women's 800 meter record at 1:53 for many years now, for most of my lifetime.
Would we care about some sprinter running 1:53? Wouldn't be that big of a deal. For instance, Harald Schmid had bronze medal in 400 hurdles and he ran a 1:44.83 800.
I remember reading of this race keenly in Athletics News. Nobody cared.
In 1964, Bob Schul closed out gold medal 5000 with a blistering 37 last 300 on a soaked cinder track. On all weather this would of likely been a 34-35 seconds effort.
So 58 years ago, we had an athlete closing out a 5000 meter race, for 300 meters distance, at approximately the same speed as Cade Flatt all out 200 meters.
Furthermore, we have Jim Ryun closing the NCAA mile championship of 1966 in 23.9 for last 200 meters, on a primitive track material and primitive shoe. Jim Ryun same age as Cade Flatt at this time.
That is the most ridiculous comment I think I have read on Lets Run. Congrats Tony P
He must have raced you, or your son, or something like that. People like you and Big deal have to have miserable existences. Go find something positive to do. The track world is fired up over this kid, and you two clowns just run down.

Cade Flatt is not the age of a college sophomore retarb
Furthermore, if what is stated above is true about Cade running only one 200 ever, that is even more impressive. He has ran it once and it was faster than Will Sumner has ever ran it outdoors. Don't get me wrong Sumner is great too. I'm just stating facts. I'm sure those two will have some great battles in the years to come.

I see Sumner has a 21.55 PB on athletic.net. Either way idk if it really matters much because if you are a sub-47 guy being able to do break 22 doesn't really move the needle.

Faster than Sumner ever ran outdoors? That’s true. But Sumner ran his 22.12 as a sophomore in 2020. Considering the fact that he’s run 21.55 indoors why is the outdoor thing part of your argument.
Cade Flatt is pretty fast. Will is faster. Cade ran a 4:12 1600m. I guarantee you Sumner can’t do that. Will is the speedier runner. Cade is certainly stronger.

I'm generally not a grammarian on internet forums but had to call attention to your post. Some punctuation can entirely change the meaning of what you are trying to convey and in what you wrote, it did.
What, exactly, is a "college sophomore retarb?" For that matter, what is a retarb? You, being the obviously bright boy that you are, more than likely meant to say that Cade Flatt is not the same age as a college sophomore. I've never heard of a college sophomore retarb so you'll need to clarify that a bit.
You know, bright boy, if it were not for puncuation, you probably would have eaten your grandmother by now. As you can see, punctuation saves lives...

To your posting name, it's because he stayed back a grade based on his age group running. How old he is for the grade I don't know ~ did he turn 19 yet or will that be in June/July?
Justin Braun ran 10.57 and 46.00 last weekend in Ohio. Would love to see him and Flatt head to head at 400/600. I don't think he's run the 800 in three years, but it would be interesting to see if he's a pure sprinter or has legs up to 800.
I was just going to mention Justin Braun (Westerville, OH).
Braun would smoke Flatt at anything 500 meters and under. The 500 is rarely contested and it is almost exclusively an inddor race. Braun did run a US best time in that event 2 indoor seasons ago clocking a 1:02.67. He more than likely could go under a minute in that event. Braun vs Flatt at 600 would be very interesting but I would probably be tempted to go with Flatt in that one. Above 600, Flatt easily wins. Braun is a big and muscular guy. He is not built for the 800.
Braun is a sprinter and he will not, IMHO, go up to the 800 while at So Cal or anytime after that. Braun's fellow Ohioan and currently a frosh at Penn State, will transition up to the 800, IMHO. Martino is at 21.45/46.57 this year. I believe in high school he was a 1:56ish guy without a lot of work on endurance. That may be the same year that he went 10.8x. Martino could end up being an 800 sleeper and he is not given a lot of attention for it.

There is a comment on page one of this thread stating that he’ll turn 19 in November, which has 19 upvotes and 0 downvotes. I can’t say for sure that it’s factual, but I’ve seen absolutely no reason to doubt it. That of course would make him a completely normal age for a HS SR.
