They should swap out West for Reed Brown to make it a world record attempt instead of a world best attempt. Maybe West was saving himself for the race tonight, but he ran 3:43 and Brown ran 3:36. You could also argue that Brown would be tired from his 3:36 but he’s run mile prelims/finals before and backed-up fine. Plus the super spikes would help save his legs a bit.
4xmile is not a record recognized by World Athletics so it would be a WB either way.

My gut says no way are they breaking the record, the 4xmile is such a tough race. Looking back at the dream team Centro, Wheating, Rupp, and Shadrack Biwott all ran it in 2009 (granted they were younger) and they "only" ran 16:03 -- that crew on the whole is much more accomplished than tonight's team and I don't think the supershoes are taking off 14 seconds.

It seems like we have to accept that there's an inherent ~5 second penaltyper leg for running solo. Of course that penalty doesn't apply to Wisner because he was the leadoff, but it makes sense for the other 3 legs compared to their potentials
