They were going to skip league/sections/state so they could run an exhibition 4xmile race at Penn!?
No freaking way anyone makes that trade. What the !?
ok its set a national record as a team surrounded by elite competition in an iconic invite OR win a 3200 by 18 seconds and earn a distinction they've already surpassed in xc
Make that choice on your own, but don’t screw a couple hundred other kids so you can have your cake and eat it too.

do you have to run league to enter sections/state in Cali?
not the way it is in NY. you hit a qualifying time at any point in the season to go to the state qualifier (sectionals).
Yes and place in top 5, or so in most leagues to advance.
In California there are at large times. If you don’t place, but have an at large time you advance.
There been times in the past the every runner a final race at the Southern Section made it to the state meet.
If the coaches in the league agree to move the league finals so that Newbury Park can run at Penn then that means they understand these type of runners on the same team come around once in a millennium and they are supportive of them. So stop being jealous and tip your hat to those coaches. This is good for track and field.

no. it's good for 4 kids. 4 kids who already have ridiculous advantages compared to 99.99999% of runners in the USA.

So you’re saying there’s a couple hundred kids that will compete in the Miramonte League Finals in the 800, 1600, and 3200? Lol, the lengths at which people exaggerate is ridiculous. Some kids are a running a league meet a day early. For the couple athletes who have to run all out in prelims- and who are also banged up- sure..maybe the extra day recovery would’ve helped (maybe not). If I was a Miramonte coach and I thought it hurt my athletes, then I’d advocate for them before it was changed. But after the fact, if you coach in a way that makes your athletes unable to handle a 24 schedule change, you should reevaluate what you’re doing. Bottom line, this isn’t really a big deal and hardly effects anyone in a practical way.
From what I gather on twitter, they now have league prelims on Tuesday, distance finals on Thursday and the rest of the finals on Friday.
Screws the distance kids who can’t afford to cruise in prelims by giving them one last day to recover before finals.
Screws the sprinters who have much less time to recover between events without the distance races. 400/200 becomes impossible and no 3200 between the 200 and 4x400.
All of this so 4 kids who skipped CIF last year can go run at Penn. Screw the masses for the privileged. What a joke!
I know you didn’t mean it this way, but it’s kind of insulting to the Miramonte coaches to assume they aren’t competent enough to create time gaps between the events. In the CA State Prelims, they have a gap between the 200 and 4x4 because there’s no 3200 prelims. I’d imagine they’ll do the same at their League Meet.

Sat 5/14 is for the section finals. And Fri 5/27 is the state meet in Clovis.
But what exactly are the "Masters" that happen the week in between the section and state meets?

high school xc coach why the hate. If you got rid of the hate and focused on coaching your runners you can put a dent in that 99.9999% of the so called advantage.

5/14 is Division Finals (D1-D4 separate)
You then qualify based on time from Division Finals to the Masters Meet (now all divisions together) to then try to qualify for State. *Its not a perfect system but it is what it is.

A couple hundred kids compete in the meet and the schedule change impacts all of them in some way. Maybe some impact is very minor and other impact is more extreme (like having to race 3200 meters twice in 2 days). Also, you have meet officials, timing people, volunteers, parents, school staff who are all impacted in some way. However minor the impact, it’s still all for 4 kids.

i have no hate. ive never complained that they are lucky enough to get to have an altitude camp, and travel the country for 12 months per year. now, they are also getting to inconvenience everybody else so they can all of their things in set up in a row. it sets an ugly precedent. where does this end? will the same thing happen next year?

The Marmonte League championships was always two days. Nothing really changed. They Just put a few events on different days that were already scheduled. Coaches and AD's all decided to do this. Timers, coaches and officials are all the same. Even time between races are the same.
It's not a big deal at all. Way too much misinformation on these MB's

This is wrong. the meet was always scheduled on the on April 28th. It was never the 29th. You people are mixing everything up
Like I said in an earlier post we have so much misinformation here.
ok, what I've gathered is that the meet was always on BOTH Thursday and Friday. But Thursday was jv field events only. Now Thursday will also have the distance events, which were previously scheduled for Friday.

No the meet was always two days, Originally it was Monday and Thursday. They moved the Monday to Tuesday. This actually does not help Newbury Park at all. The AD's always have a meeting before the championships to make everything final. Nothing was ever scheduled Friday. All they did was switch a few distance race to the Tuesday instead of Thursday. Not a big deal. This is normal to have AD's make final changes to the schedule. It's done every year. Newbury Park was just waiting to see what the final schedule was. It was not any major changes at all. Just people making a big deal about nothing.
ok, so are the 2 separate days not really a "prelims" and "finals" as previously listed?

I don't know if the SS is different but in most of the NSC leagues the schedule looks like this.
April 30 League Trials May 7 League Finals May 7 Deadline to Determine Qualifiers May 14 NCS Tri-Valley Championships May 20, 21 NCS Meet of Champions May 27, 28 CIF State Championships

correct, they have finals on both days for distance because they have straight finals

i agree this is a huge NOTHING if this is how it is.
the bumping up to Tuesday is maybe to give extra rest to teams who are running an invitational the prior weekend?
though im sure that teams running on saturday the 23rd invites would rather their distance guys have the 2 extra days of rest.
