They literally said the same thing about Purdue. That St. Petes got lucky. It was a fluke. Purdue will end them because they make foul shots. It didn't happen. It's not a fluke anymore. St Petes is real and UNC should be quaking in their tar covered heels. St Petes will lose however to Duke because every Duke game is Duke and the zebras vs the "unlucky" opponent.
Nobody who knows a lot about basketball ever said Team X always wins because of a ref conspiracy. You are a devoted fan but your knowledge of the actual game has to be quite limited. Or, you are trolling.
SP is playing with extreme confidence. I think they believe they will win every game. They play with no fear. I think they hate this “Cinderella” label. They are insulted by it and they are on a mission to kick all our butts. They have good D and guards who can create shots. They hit free throws. They are dangerous still.
Yes, but would you put down money on them yo beat UNC, not cover the spread just let's say 1,000 if they win vs pay 1,000 if they lose. I don't think that would be a smart bet.
Maybe Purdue is "not great" but they were ranked #1 in the country for much of the season.Purdue struggled against them for the entire game. This didn't look like luck for St Peters. They probably won't win it all but there's a chance.
Purdue finished 29-8. They were 16-1 at home and 8-2 on neutral sites but just 5-5 on the road. They were not a great team by any means. They were a great team at home I guess but certainly not overall.
Most "road" games in the NCAA now are neutral site games. Road games really only begin once conference play starts. Early season games are normally played in tournaments.
Wrong. It's very obvious that things are being setup to give big K one last title. This happens in sports a lot with big names retiring and magically getting a last championship. Also, since UNC was able to beat Baylor they were locked in to face Duke in the final four. The paths were set once that result occurred. St Peters was allowed to win to make that easier.
I love a good conspiracy theory. Don't believe most, but always fun to read
Of course they won’t and then you will never bump this thread. They are a great story. The story of the tournament. However they barely beat a not great Purdue team. They cannot win the tournament.
Their chances are surely very low, but your absolute certainty is a little silly too. My dad completely laughed off their chances of beating Murray St., and then again Purdue, after they’d already beaten #2 seed Kentucky.
I’m sure they’ve gotten lucky so far (as in, in 7 game series versus Kentucky or Purdue they’d probably lose), but they definitely have momentum on their side and they only have to get lucky 3 more times and they’re national champions. It doesn’t hurt that their elite 8 matchup is against a #8 seed (though I’m sure UNC deserves better than that at this point).
Fact is nobody knows what will happen. Sure, Kansas/Villanova/Duke should be slightly favored, but only 3 of the top 12 seeded teams made the elite 8 so obviously seeding only counts for so much.
The majority of the country will be rooting for little old St. Peter’s. At this point, my order of cheering will go nearly in inverse order of the seeds: #15 St. Peter’s, #10 Miami, #5 Houston, #4 Arkansas, #8 UNC, #2 Duke, #2 Villanova, #1 Kansas.
I'm surprised you're rooting for Duke or Villanova and Kansas. Duke is an incredibly annoying team with an even more irritating fanbase. I would much rather see Coach K's season end before the final four than them winning over Kansas or Villanova.
Ugh, I meant I'm surprised to see you rooting for Duke *over* Kansas or Villanova
Normally yes, Duke is the perennial powerhouse you have to root against (I hate Christian Laettner as much as the next guy). But I sort of like Coach K and if he went out with one last title, at least it would be a story. Villanova has already won twice and made 3 Final Fours since 2016, and I’d consider that a boring result. I particularly dislike Kansas and their smug coach Bill Self.

You are trying to troll, or else you are just a natural. Regardless, please remind me of these many instances in which the big name got the championship upon retiring.

I can think of a few big name athletes retiring after winning a title but its hardly conspiracy evidence.
In football - John Elway, Jerome Bettis, Michael Strahan, and Peyton Manning. And David Robinson in basketball. Coach - maybe Bill Cowher?
In hockey, Ray Borque did.
However, I can't think of any coaches who retired and stayed retired - Phil Jackson, Dick Vermeil, and Tony LaRussa all retired after winning but then came back.
As far as NCAA Div 1 Mens coaches go, I just spent five minutes looking it up and all I can find are John Wooden (75) and Al McGuire (77) so...no. It doesn't happen "all the time".
Twice in 50 years and "all the time" are two incompatible descriptions of time.
I love the St Peters' coach's quote he keeps repeating. WHAT THEY GON SAY NOW? He depicts how the nobodies/haters will always have something to say, no matter what. They never take accountability for their misperceptions and narrative, acting as if their crap don't stink. They should look in the mirror and work on themselves instead of spending every day criticizing others who are more successful than them.
UNC is going to show them the difference between ACC and the Metro Atlantic Conference. Heck, St. Peter's didn't even win their conference regular season title. Iona gapped everyone.
UNC will beat them by at least 20. The glass slipper will get shattered tonight.
Obviously want to see UNC win but if had to put down money I would go with Duke. UNC played extremely well in the season finale at Cameron but I do not see a repeat of that performance.
