He had a great run. Olympic gold medal, indoor world gold, two outdoor World Champs medals, a mile PB last summer, and a solid 3:33 in the Tokyo Olympic semis (alas, not quite enough). If he is slowly backing away from competitive racing, he can do so with his head held high. Thanks for all the great memories, Matt.
My bad. When LAST week was there a Centro thread? You said weekly threads… I searched the threads and didn’t see a recent thread SOLEY dedicated to Centro. Much like this thread, other runners get brought up and discussed throughout. I’m not scanning other threads about numerous other runners for the Centro details. Don’t get on a Centro thread and comment if you are sick and tired of him then!
Yeah I must have forgotten about Lagat’s Olympic gold medal. As I said, Centro is possibly the greatest 1500m runner in US history.
Lagat's 2007 gold is superior to Centro's 2016 gold. You know this.
His silver in 2004 is also far superior, as he almost beat the GOAT, but he was in a Kenya singlet back then so I won't push it.
But Centrowitz has an argument, sure.
Yeah, the thing is, while Lagat's win was great, he did not beat anyone superior to him. Centro had one of the slower PRs in the field and he beat two previous medal winners who were superior athletes and also dopers in Kiprop and Mahkloufi. His win was a big upset which nobody predicted.

Nah, bruh
That whole race was a big upset to middle distance running. It's not Centro's fault however.
Centro has retired from competitive racing. He doesn’t want to make a big deal out of it. He is an Olympic gold medalist. A legend. Possibly the greatest 1500m runner in US history.
Nope he’s a drug cheat he’s pathetic scum
This post has been reported several times, rojo! Funny how you take down similar posts on certain female runners in minutes but not Centro or other males Biased much?

That’s probably the Clay Mayes, III character. Definitely an angry dude.

3:27 should not count as the American record considering he competed for Kenya in the '04 Olympics 2 weeks later. Doubly as stupid, since his 3:29 in '05 while actually competing for America would still be the American record.
Some sites list 3:27 and some list 3:29 as the record.
0/10
Lagat was an American citizen before those Olympics. He was told by the USATF to run for Kenya team.
Lagat became a citizen on 7 May 2004.
Lagat ran 3:27.40 on 6 August 2004.
USATF rules require an athlete has to be a U.S. citizen competing in a sanctioned competition to be eligible to set a national record. The USATF did not to ratify his record set 3 months after becoming a citizen for reasons they never stated.
As directed by the USTAF Lagat, a U.S. citizen, ran for Kenya at the 2004 Olympics; the 1500m ran from August 20-24.
The USATF is 100% at fault for this happening. A citizen is a citizen as determined by the U.S. government. USATF "citizenship" seems to be an entirely made up thing by a group of old men sitting around a table.
3:27.40 is the 1500m record time run by a U.S. citizen.
3:27.40 is the time today's, and tomorrow's, U.S. 1500m guys should target to beat for the record set by a U.S. citizen. Claiming a time slower as the record is silly.
What is the fastest 1500m run by a U.S. citizen at a sanctioned meet? 3:27.40
This is why our sport is so frustrating. Could you imagine something like this in MLB or NFL? A top ten player and nobody knows what’s going on with them.

You mean like Tom Brady, who was retired until he wasn’t, and someone paid over half a million for his last TD pass football, which is now looking much less valuable? That kind of frustrating?
Yeah…Tom Brady, the guy who was making Instagram posts about being retired. The media talking about his retirement. Teams posting tributes to his career.
If Centro is retiring, there’s absolutely no one talking about it. We don’t even know if he’s injured or training. Everyone and their mother was talking about Brady retiring and speculating whether or not he would stay retired.
Dont really care who told him to do what. If you compete for another country, you absolutely should not have an American record 2 weeks before that competition. If he wanted to compete for America so badly, he wouldnt have run for another country in the middle of a citizenship change.
America's new distance superstar Grant Fisher joins us to talk all about his 12:53 5,000 and 26:33 10,000m American records. What was Grant's mindset heading into the race, during the race, and where does he go from here? Whe...
