That's a fine performance and another one second drop for Flatt. Another second and he'd be scaring the U.S. indoor record, and it would make an excellent race outdoors to see Flatt race Sumner (1:48.14, I think). Colin Sahlman ran sub 1:51 indoors, which is solid. I would bet that Newbury Park does not do a lot of the kind of speed you need to do to run 1:47, at least not at this time of year. They emphasize mile through 5k and their training is suitable up to 8k. Wait and see him drop a lot of time in the 800m in college or whenever he gets to compete at that distance more often. I actually don't anticipate much of that at NAU, which is similar in focus on the college level to Newbury Park.
