Honest question: Does NP run at "school" meets? Maybe it was just me, but when I ran in high school it was important to win smaller meets during the week, then place high at big invitationals on the weekend.
I would not be highly surprised if the brothers went 1-2. I would be even less surprised if they went 3-7. Why do you want a showdown with a vastly superior 800 runner (on paper) for these two? You want to see them beaten? You think they can run sub 1:50 based on their longer marks?
A bigger question for me is did their seed times warrant the fast heat? If other posters are correct with their 800 bests, I would not be happy as a coach if my kid had a faster seed time and was pushed out of the fast heat. The heats do not provide seed times so it makes me skeptical.
When did I say it was about anybody else? The fact is these two are not even close to being the best 2 hs'ers. Saying such is bad journalism and proves once again this board constantly elevates the best white athletes as being the best in our sport.
I am inclined to agree as the two HS athletes are american distance runners and America is the G League of running therefore they cannot be anywhere near being the best athletes in their cohort at the national level.

Their coach is notorious for throwing tantrums if his runners don't get into the heats he thinks they should be in regardless of seed times or what other runners may deserve to be in the heat or not.
If any of you bothered to look you would see that Sumner is not even entered in the 800 at the Nike meet this weekend. He said a few weeks ago that he would be running the 400 & 200.
Look, I am surprised anyone even commented on this, but NO meet organizer is putting the Sahlmans or any other NP top 4 in anything other than the top seeded heat. Just the way it works..seriously? Some of you want a 3:58 miler in the unseeded section of anything? Get a clue..seriously, because he doesn't have a legit seed time?
Does anyone else from CA do indoor? I haven't been following along.
The Sahlman's are obviously there for the 4Xmile. They would not have flown across the country to run an 800. Should they be in a different heat? Maybe, but Colin's pr seems to be from a prelims meet when he won by over 3 seconds so it will be interesting to see what he can do in a fast race.

Makes a mockery of the seeding process. Their times do not justify them being in the first heat. New Balance should seed based on times rather than name bias.

I didn't run in California, though.
You know they have other people on the team, right? Why have your sub-4 miler running a bunch of meaningless league meets? It makes more sense to let some of the younger athletes have a chance to run varsity and develop.

Do you want a 3:58 miler in the fast heat of the 60? Pole Vault? So, yes there are limits. What's next, a kid with a 1:48 put in the slow heat because.................... he's not white? Too long of hair? From the east coast? From a broken home? It opens up a sport that should be based on merit to things it should not be.
If you want in the fast heat, run the time! I honestly don't know where their seed times ranked? It may all be legit, or not.
Another absurd response. Try to contribute something meaningful, will ya?
Absurd to you, but seems completely logical and reasonable to me. There is some kid that actually ran a time deserving of being in the fastest heat, but they are going to get bumped because someone else ran another distance that "might" mean they can run as fast or faster.

So to answer my question.... 11 total male distance runners from CA have run in an indoor meet this year. Three (Colin, Lex, Aaron) are from Newbury Park.

That's like saying the world record holder in the 10K or half marathon should not be in the elite start line for a marathon if they don't have a marathon time yet.

It actually is the way it works and your example isn't apples to apples. The 800 fields are limited, the elite marathon field is not (within reason). If one more person gets added to the elite marathon field, it doesn't bump someone else out. There are going to be people in the slower heat that have run faster times for the 800 than the 2 bros. Total BS.
Drew Hunter was more of a mile/2 mile guy in HS and ran 1:48 at Dagwood off of pure strength. Don't act like this couldn't be a race. Plus Sumner likes to even split or negative split his races so it could be competitive until the bell lap.
