Except…..you didn’t provide any such encouragement. You didn’t reference a transition to the roads.
You make a pretty big assumption that you know nearly as much about top level athletics as I do, but that is irrelevant to my point. I have no need to prove myself to you, but I’ve got more than a little experience in this arena. You were, and are, being a turd and a pessimist. That’s the point.
Let’s assume for now that Dathan Ritzenhein knows a little more about how to remain relevant as a runner than you or I. Wild, I know. Their plan is to stay on the track at 5k/10k this cycle, then consider a transition to the roads for next year and the next Olympics IF that fits Joe’s skill set, which we don’t know yet. With the mileage he runs, they’re clearly setting him up for a “2nd career” as a 10k-Marathon guy on the roads, but not everyone makes that transition so easily (see Dathan, Tadesse). It makes great sense for Joe to try to make another world’s team, see if he still has another level (since he just had a peak and plateau). You don’t know Joe. You don’t know his ability, strengths, and weaknesses. Especially in the aerobic track distances, athletes can develop in the late 20s. I did, and PRed at 27-32 over most distances. NOT the 100-1500, and we ain’t talking about the 1500 here.
Regardless, Joe knows he can make money on the track for at least 1 more year. Dathan and Joe know what’s best for Joe more than you do, or I do, so stop being a turd.
