Doesn't matter- has to show up on the world major stage. He has a lot to lose and little to gain from this race. Hope Bor wins
What does he have to lose? No matter how he runs, he will still hold the 10000m AR and possession of 2 Olympic medals.
I'm not knocking his past achievements, he is undoubetdly the best American distance/marathoner of all time. I want him to fail so we can finally see how pathetic American distance running and marathoning is atm
This is an incredibly bad take and proves you know absolutely nothing about the American Distance scene. This race is one of the most competitive races for Americans year in and year out for a very long time. Non traditional distances actually used to be more common like Bay to Breakers 12k. The fact it isn't a traditional distance allows it to always be a national championship in the same location every year unlike the half and other road championship races. Rupp is many years away from falling off like Webb did and he is a much more consistent runner than Webb was anyways. Honestly just delete your account and never post on here again.
He's not making much of a case by going after the "15k champs"
I suppose there's a 20k "champs" for whoever can't win the half marathons, and a 25k "champs" for anyone still left out after that.
Not hating on Rupp! I hate to see him like this. Reminds me of Alan Webb's last season running like 4:20 in semi-elite miles.
You hate to see Rupp running an event with national-level competition? Why? Sure 15k isn't historically an event that many people focus on, but it's not like this is some small-town 5k. Maybe he just wants to try something new, do something just for fun for once.
Yeah potential for a $15k payday in maybe a slightly watered down field with a lot of runners at the Ten this weekend. Good to see him racing -- plus he's scheduled to run NYC Half next week. 50/60s, maybe humid. Won't be the best day for running fast. Should have a few guys to push him. Morgan Pearson should get mentioned as a dark horse. Curious to see how he does off of his triathlon base. He won that half in Michigan during the pandemic.
Looking forward to seeing Sisson run for the first time in a long time & for Sisson to step up a little in distance on the roads. Durgin/Frisbie/Rojas all intriguing.

Undoubtedly? I highly doubt that. Top ten, yes, but the best?
Don't forget about Shorter, Rodgers, Khannouchi, Lagat, Keflezighi...
Having that said, he should be able to win this for some nice cash.
Galen Rupp is the most overrated runner in history, never running sub 2:30 in the marathon again. His previous "success" was entirely doping and I wouldn't be surprised if some of the results were faked for NOP/Nike publicity. He'll never break 46 min at Gate River, no way.
With Rupp, you never know what he will do. Typically when he shows up to race, he’s ready. Todd Williams never went faster than 27:32-33 on the track in the 10,000, even with Rupp not taking the 10,000 serious last year at the trials in the heat, he was solid. If he’s on, he will be the best chance to see a serious challenge to Todd’s record. While Rupp doesn’t have the most approachable personality, he’s a good runner with a ton of potential. We shouldn’t hate that!

You're joking right? This race has up to $15,000 for the winner. Great to see him doing it.
Seriously. Gate often has the deepest US fields outside of the Olympic Trials Marathon of any US road race. I challenge Bad Wigins to name even one US road race with a deeper field that isn’t the Trials.
A few things: Unless the weather does not cooperate, the record is gone. Bor, Korir and Rupp will separate from the pack around mid-way. Bor will win the race, Rupp has not shown the pop for shorter distances in a couple of years. However, Rupp will be competitive because he does not race unless he is capable of competing for the win.
I hate when everyone always does the comparison with Todd Williams who ran a different course than today’s runners. Todd was awesome but it was a different course.
Todd was heck of a runner, but Rupp and Hall are faster at every other distance. There is no way a fit and game Hall could not have run a faster 15K than Williams.

If distance running is going to become popular among the audience the elites need to race more often. Why do you think XC skiing and biking are such big spectator sports in Europe?
