Russia is infinitely better equipped and the air force has a fair amount of combat experience from flying missions in Syria. But the Russian army has not seen real combat since the Chechen war. And in that conflict, the Russians just bombed the sh#t out of every place they found separatists and were not very effective in direct combat with the separatist forces.

Yep. Russia's military is not near the same capabilities of the US. We have a technological advantage in our ships, aircraft, drones, tanks and command and control systems. Our troops are more professional, better trained, and far more experienced in actual combat.
Russia could not defeat the US alone, and absolutely not us and all NATO allies that would be obligated to help defend us if attacked by Russia.

That's typical 20-years-ago thinking. Missile tech has advanced around the world and obseleted all that stuff for any armed force not prepared to have thousands of its professional, well-trained, experienced troops blown to bits before they engage anyone.
This is true in the navy, as much of a "sea change" as the aircraft carrier was to the battleship. Who needs a runway when you have a missile cruiser?
