Watch out for Jessie Diggins (USA) and Therese Johaug (Norway), both of whom have legitimate medal aspirations in that race tomorrow. Diggins has tons of courage. I also like Charlotte Kalla (Sweden), but not sure about her form at this time.
I think one of the significant advantages that the ROC team has is that they have the waxing for the skis down to a fine art. They have really invested in that aspect of the sport and it’s really paying off with huge dividends. You could see this in the 28 km today during which time every time there was a slight downhill, Bolshunov’s skis were so much more effective compared with his rivals. It was almost like night and day.
Do you have any idea how much money Sweden and Norway put into waxing, ski structure and equipment? Last Olympics Charlotte Kalla had 60 pair of skis with her. The value of the wax that the Swedish team bring with them is well over 1 million SEK.
