At least 14,000 people arrested for breaking the law at blm protests. Out of millions of protestors at blm protests. These protestors are ALL breaking the law by blocking movement and refusing to move. Arrest them all.
So if peaceful protesters inconvenience society in anyway we should “send in the boots”? MLKs Selma to Montgomery March? That was clogging up roads for a week! Send in the troops!
Yeah, I will proudly wear the “ma freedoms” tag all day.
Suspending basic civil liberties , limiting freedom of movement and freezing bank accounts is a dangerous precedent to set. Yeah, I get it, you personally don’t like what the truckers stand for. However, Trudeau won’t be in power forever and perhaps the next guy in charge will use these same powers to limit your freedoms. You won’t have a leg to stand on when you cry “This is tyranny! How about my freedom!”
They don't like what the truckers are DOING. Which, is infringing on EVERYONE'S rights whether it be lawful travel or conducting business or having an successful economy.
If these were blacks protesting something, you';d be calling for water cannons.
Correct. Some causes are virtuous. Some are wrongful. Freedom is virtuous. Marxism and race baiting is wrong.
Selma march was marching, not trying to stop traffic. Selma marchers got beaten for crossing a bridge. These 'protestors' are holding the border crossing hostage and refusing to move.

So if a BLM protest or climate change protest was holding up traffic or cause inconvenience for the locals (which do happen) you would support the government to use the same measures that are currently being used against the truckers? Freezing bank account, using emergency powers never before used, etc?

Powerful argument.
It was a dark moment in American history when George Wallace sent in the tow trucks to break up the civil rights movement.

SNCC was infamous for disrupting society through their peaceful protests. Men like Wallace used identical logic to what Justin is using now to break up the protests. Trodeau is just using much more expansive and tyrannical powers than men like Wallace did.

Considering there was in excess of $8 Billion in private property damage I'd say a significant number of arrests were justified.
As someone who lived in a California city where we had a week of curfews, helicopters buzzing overhead, and businesses nearby burned down the two are in no way related. No one is terrified for their safety or that their business will be looted because of the truckers. If they are its because the media has lied to them. Not to mention the truckers actually have a clear actionable grievance with the government where BLM had no real policy objective other than lets intimidate millions of Americans to give our organization millions of dollars so our leadership team can go on expensive retreats and buy a bunch of nice houses and condos.
difference between american and non-american right here. American's see stuf like this and the only thing that comes to their mind is "noooo, waahahhh, ma freeedoms!" lol. It's not like that here though. Everyone hated the truckers protests and no one gives a **** about this emergency act thing. Thanks for the concern though OP
I as an American take that as a compliment.

You play stupid games, you win stupid prizes. If I do stupid nonsense, I expect there will be a consequence. These clowns have been warned, and they continued to ignore the warnings. Thus, they get exactly what they deserve.
BTW, loving this voting system. A down vote in LRC is like an upvote in life.

They also stopped people who crossed the border to work from the freedom to do their job and make a living.
It appears that many of the truckers were U.S. citizens and not Canadians. Most of the donated money came from U.S. donors.
Most donations came from the United States — 52,000 American donors were listed compared to 36,000 originating in Canada.
The largest named donation — $90,000 — was made by American tech billionaire Thomas Siebel. Dallas, Texas-based construction magnate Ben Pogue donated $20,000.
Emperor Justinian is all about controlling the population
He made it a criminal act to use the wrong pronoun
now he wants to block bank accounts of people who are trying to protest some of his policies
(by definition any protest is usually from a minority, otherwise, the government would already be acting in the way of the majority…. So no protest required)
the slope is very slippery and it goes in one direction
As a fairly average Canadian, my answer is "yes." Same answer for pretty much everyone I know, though that probably reveals more about my social circles than about the country as a whole.
No one here disagrees with the right to protest, even if that protest entails some degree of inconvenience for others. But blockading the border, stopping hundreds of millions of dollars of trade every day, forcing auto factories to shut down, and so on? Leaning on truck horns in residential areas all through the night for weeks on end? Those aren't protected rights.
At a certain point, there's a race to the bottom. If the Canadian government says "Okay, you 10,000 people sure are committed to your goals, we'll accede to your demands and let you be the government," what happens if 5,000 people like me decide that we don't like that, and we decide to blockade the border ourselves? Are we really going to make national policy decisions based on which group of a few thousand zealots is willing to inflict more pain on everyone else?
We have a much better way of making these decisions. They're called elections. We had one in Canada six months ago. Trudeau won while running on the explicit promise to introduce vaccine mandates. The People's Party of Canada, which is the party most closely aligned with the protests, didn't win a single seat. Even their leader lost.
So yes, in answer once again to your original question, this is what most (though certainly not all) Canadians want. Those that don't want it can and should continue to voice their views and sway others toward their perspective. But not like this.

I was going to post a similar thing. There is no justification for freezing bank accounts and no power should ever be given to police to break up protests.
At the same time, if this was a BLM protest the police would have cleared them by day 2. The "we need more powers, we're so small and tiny" is a regular line from the police. Of course, the difference is BLM have been arguing for less police powers for a while, whereas this might be a new experience for the truckers.

The trucker convoy is not a brave exercise of peaceful protest for liberty, it’s a complete clown-show that is proving disruptive to people’s lives and infringing on their liberties. Then again, that’s how right wingers perceive freedom in their narcissistic, selfish word view: it’s the belief that they get to do whatever the hell they want, others be damned.
You begin with massive fear campaign around Covid.
It is effectively now a head cold but the powers that be are acting like it's currently the black plague and scaring the bejesus out of the public.
A sizable portion has awakened and realized this is all about consolidating power in the hands of a few people while taking away our most basic liberties (travel, make a living, have a life, body autonomy). Hence the massive rallies throughout Canada and much of the world.
Obviously much larger than a few extremists. But that's what they call them And point to polls showing the majority oppose these people. That's the game. Lie and scare people into believing and doing what you tell them and then point to those people as supporting you.
Lie/smear/propagandize. Then threats. Then force.
That's all the tyrants know.
Time we took them down. They are few. We are many
You are few,and posting under numerous names doesn't make the rest of us feel that there are more of you.
You are a 70 Yr old senile old man,who the hell can you take down?
Not really the first time, if you ignore terminology.
His father invoked the War Measures Act in 1970 to quash Quebec Separatists. Similar effect in it allowed the Government and Military broad powers to ignore protected rights and act against citizens.
They also stopped people who crossed the border to work from the freedom to do their job and make a living.

Enacting the War Measures Act was controversial at the time and remains so to this day. Enacting the Emergencies Act, a direct descendant of the War Measures Act, is controversial today and will remain so forever. That doesn't mean it was the wrong thing to do, then or now. The "Quebec Separatists" of whom you speak were a murderous terrorist group, not a gaggle of friendly French-speaking Canadians who'd prefer their own government. There are some near-parallels today. The Alberta chapter of the "freedom convoy" had automatic weapons and body armour. That may sound totally fine to y'all south of the world's longest undefended border, but it's not cool up here. Guns and body armour are not part of our culture, and what was seized could not be owned legally by the average Canadian.
