The announcer never figured out that Alex Masai was NOT the second pacer. Anybody who follows the sport should have known that that was not Alex Masai and that Alex Masai was not even in the race.
Well I previously pointed out this mistake in another thread and now I will give you a taste of your own medicine: Anybody who follows the sport should know that Alex Masai WAS in the race, but he obviously was not the Moroccan pacing as he is Kenyan.
Let me clarify. Masai was in the 5000m but you are correct he was not in heat 1. So I should not have corrected you. But yeah it was so strange that he referred to the Moroccan repeatedly as Masai. Like he had never heard of him or known he was Kenyan.
Best FloTrack call ever. Web's mile was a close 2nd but they had time to prep for that. No one expected Solinski to do what he did. Ryan was a great announcer.

It was that broadcast that made Flotrack at all viable as a commercial venture. Once they go paywall though, first thing they do is pull Fenton off the mike.
Both had great energy, both had good comments to keep us following the action. I give them both high scores. But track announcers still need to get better at describing the crux of the race. Grant Fischer was pulling away because … “revving his engine” was a good cliche, but describe what that means for a runner, and how extraordinary it is to do at that point of a fast race. Webb was clearly tying up on the last lap but still was going super fast. Describe what that looks and feels like and how hard he is straining to do that. They need to get more into the visceral nature of running, not just the “who is where” of the race.
Footnote: I once heard a British radio broadcast of a tennis match, and I could totally picture each point. The announcer animated everything from the effort of the players to reach a drop shot to the power of hammering a passing shot. That is the level for track announcers to shoot for.
