SLC people are the laziest & call in sick more than anywhere I've worked- by a long shot. I've worked a lot & in a lot of states.

I live in New Mexico which I think is the most diverse state, almost 50% Hispanic and basically run by Hispanics....We are at the bottom in education, infrastructure, healthcare and at the top in crime, poverty and disfunction...
Mormons prioritize family over money. Visiting Utah is like going back in time.

It is interesting that even the US city with the best “work-life” balance is still behind London and Tokyo, which are the capital cities of two of the most “overworked” countries in the developed world.
Not sure London is overworked at all. Nothing like Japan or USA.
London has a "work smart not hard" attitude, alongside "play hard". I think it works well - you get respected for being good, not saying youre good.
Along with the most diverse population on the planet, if that's your thing too.

The moral and value structures in Utah starkly contrast with the rest of the country. It's definitely an oddity.
Youngest state in the US, high birth rate, large families, people get married super young, very tight family and religious circles, incredibly conservative socially...it would all be very strange to someone from SF or NYC.
Utah also has the most favorable GINI index in the US, is socially affluent, extremely low crime, quite wealthy(with high rates of upward mobility), and has one of the fittest, most active, healthy, thin populations in the country. Lowest smoking rate, lowest rate of diabetes. Lots of good, but lots that a social liberal would have a hard time with.
SLC is an island within a that sea that masks a lot of that though. It's not quite Portland or Seattle(thankfully), but it's incredibly liberal.
This is my initial reaction too. Broadly speaking, top city lists are disappointing. After skimming their "methodology" it looks really bizarre. The entire article is very tightly focused on covid so this list will be irrelevant to someone who is looking for a permanent relocation
I live in Pittsburgh, we have great sports teams, low crime, and you can buy a house for under 50k.
