HS sensation Will Sumner 1:48.14 (#2 US indoor HS all-time) at NBIGP!!

I am a Georgia HS Coach- that’s the fastest time ever run by a high schooler in this state indoor or outdoor. Anyone who thinks that’s a disappointment needs to follow curling instead.

Great result. He can go faster. Even splits is a tough way to run a fast 800m.

Wow, it does say he's born in 2002. This should DISQUALIFY all of his high school records. He's older than 99.99% of college freshmen.

I will admit to being in a minority. I suspect that utility man is right on and even splits are the biologically most efficient way to run any distance longer than about 200m. The poster will admit that Dr. Daniels or somebody hasn't proven this, but he's right by pointing out that no team of scientists with elite runners on treadmills have proof to the contrary.

Brazier actually did this (relatively even split) once. I'm sure some of you remember the race. It was accidental. He was told to start out in last to see if he could get through the crowd - not a given indoors. The last lap went unbelievably well. He was not rigging due to an unrealistically fast start. These guys aren't 'deciding' to make the last 200 the slowest of the race; they are all-out and falling apart.

Why does the results page say he was born in 2002? That would make him almost 20. Is that accurate?

LRC note. We believe it is inaccurate. Tilastapaj lists his DOB as October 22 , 2003. So he's closer to 18 than 19.

Freshmen are born in 2002 or 2003. How do so many of you always get this wrong?

He is listed at 20 at World athletics.

DoB 22 October 03 (so 18 and 108 days)

The kid has run 21.66 and now 1:48.14 (off even splits) indoors already.! He'll more than likely run 46 point next week in Kentucky.

The 800 is his long terms objective, so this is a great step in the right direction. Great work Will

Maybe try to stop being an argumentative moron: there isn't going to be "biological proof" for any of these suppositions (positive splits vs even splits vs negative splits). But the empirical data with support from sports science is that a small positive split is the optimal way to pace the 800m. Ross Tucker and others have studied and written about it extensively.
