The likelihood of an international runner dying of covid is extremely low and was always extremely low even without the vaccines, based on the scientific data we have. Despite the millions of worldwide deaths reported, the number of completely healthy under 30s dying of covid remains a tiny number. The death rate since the beginning of the pandemic is 0.2% for under 40s and that is not excluding those with serious underlying health issues which make up more than 95% of those deaths.
And the chances of an international runner dying from covid now becomes increasingly lower over time, think of a logarithmic curve. This is because the virus is quite clearly petering out to be prevalent, but very mild. It is no longer any worse than a cold.
