What is it with these outrageous comparisons? American runners will never be better if you live in the delusion that this guy "Mantz" would beat Jacob in XC.

Double Lol. Kiplimo likely cant go under 3:32. Jakob on the other hand has the tools to go 3:25.

Also, look for Jakob to go 7:20 & 12:30 in the next couple of years. Sickly stick figure Kiplimo will be long forgotten by then.

That’s funny. 12:48, 26:33, 57:31 as a 21 year old and he’s overrated! No, more likely he’ll be considered the GOAT by the time he’s 30 than he’s overrated.

Well, I do agree with you about Jakob….

If it were the NCAA cross country course, then I think Jakob wins easily.

But if it were a hilly + muddy course with bad footing, Mantz may have a chance.

I am not talking about Jakob, but about Carlos Mayo, re-read my post

XC performance is almost totally related to one overall abilities on the distance.

The only reason one athlete abilities on a distance wouldn't translate well on an XC course is if they are unprepared for the race because they don't care about the race.

What makes you think Jacob would suck at climbing hills? With his turnover and strength, he could gap Mantz on any hill he wanted. If they ran hill repeats in a workout, Mantz would be embarrassed.

These Yakob fanboys are getting out of hand. 3:25 and 12:30? Fat chance. Pillbury Doughboy's not getting anywhere near those times.

Jakob is not bad at hills but you can see that he would be easily gapped by Kiplimo and Cheptegei and quite a few others on a very hilly xc course like in Denmark at World XC in 2019, where he was in the junior race and still was well beaten to roughly 12th, while Kiplimo and Cheptegei were dominating the senior race over Geoffrey Kamworor.

Perhaps you're being sarcastic, perhaps not. But I keep seeing this being posted, so something is going on here -- including by someone right before the start of the Euro XC championships, saying he probably wouldn't win because he's too big. And then he goes out and clobbers a very talented field.

It must speak to something very odd in many LRC readers perceptions of the sport...top runners need to look emaciated to be accepted as fast, rather than producing fast times to be considered fast.

And we're not even talking fat, if we're being honest. We're talking about muscle.

He would have been lucky to be top 10, and I'm not even exaggerating.

Brian Fay finished 10th in Euro XC, and 38th at NCAAs. Mantz destroyed Fay by over a minute at NCAAs. Mantz wouldn't need to be lucky to be in the top 10, he'd need to be injured to be out of it.

I think Mantz could beat Jakob by 5+ seconds head to head in an XC race. He probably loses anything else under a HM though.
