His olympic dreams aren't over. If Grant Fischer makes the 5K, he should run this one instead because he has a better chance of medalling or getting top 10 in a tactical race which happens far less often in the 10K. If Grant scratches the 10K, True is in.
I personally think Klecker and Kincaid should scratch the 10K, but I think they've both committed to doubling which seems unwise to me
true can get in.
this is the year of the injury an d false positive covid test.
it is 50/50 he goes

Klecker scratched the 5k. But looks like Woody and Grant are still in. I’m assuming they’ll both make the 5k team so Ben has decent chances of getting in the 10k if they scratch. I’m hoping Abbey Cooper will also get to run assuming Cranny and Schweitzer will also make the 10k team.
Yeah it's definitely all about them world championships instead
wonder if his wife went into labor early? i think their baby is due 7/21

Woody said he would run both at the Olympics if he qualified. I don't know if that's a d--k move if you have no chance in at least one race, but I guess you always think there's a chance.

It's not exactly a jerk move but I don't love that decision. It's a little selfish but I also am on the fence. They have a right to make the decision they do. The question is if Grant Fisher will also run both events. Is that what the commentator said?
Kara said both would double if they make it :(
Why shouldn't True and Klecker take a shot in the 5k? Unless some of these guys from the 10k have some serious fatigue or nagging injury, I don't understand why they don't take a shot. After Chelimo, the 5k is a toss up. Heck, Chelimo has not looked great in the past year, actually. Kincaid and Fisher could be fatigued from the 10k as well. Who knows what Jenkins will do after the 10k drop out. I would give Cooper Teare as much of a chance as anyone. You have so few chances in a pro career, you have to take them when you have the opportunity.

Chelimo looked awesome yesterday.

The dude's PB is 30 seconds faster than that race, so I hope he would look good. I'm thinking of some failed races he has had in the past year. Missed his attempts at the American indoor 5000m record. Hasn't run particularly fast this year. Lost an 8k XC race to Mason Ferlic last fall (a race in which I was in, it was fun). The dude is a legend but nothing indicates he is near his best or will dominated the field in the final.

There's little point for Klecker because he's already made the team. His goal was Olympian.
I hate to say it, but even if Ben made it in, his medal chances are very slim. He'd get lit up on that last lap if it's tactile and if it's fast from the gun they go sub 26:30 and he's a minute off the winner. I really respect him though, he's having an incredible career and is a hell of a runner, maybe one of the best clean athletes out there. He'll probably look towards a marathon, and I could see him being very successful there.

Eh. At least he should have an opportunity to go in the 10k. He's the alternate. Not that it means he's an Olympian, but still some validation.
Says his knee swelled up after the 10k. I'm not sure if that's real or he knows he doesn't have the kick for the 5.
Either way, mad props to Ben. There was a period of time where I would check LetsRun after a weekend morning run and repeatedly find out that Ben had outkicked the field to win yet another road race. He's probably got some American records for clean runners.

Woody closed his 10k in a 53.
If the Olympic 5k OR 10k finals are a tactical affair, he has a better chance to medal than most.
For context, Mo Farah's winning final 400m in the 2012 London games 10k was a 55.3, 52.94 for his final lap in the 5k.
I'm not saying Cheptegei can't throw that down (he can). I'm just saying that if Woody is there with 400 to go, he has just as much of a shot as Rupp had in London.

Yea, it says that Centro and Rupp are world class you f**cking loser.
If the two guys who qualified for the 10,000, also qualify for the 5,000, and one of them decides to only do the 5 or if one of the 3 qualifiers who qualified in the 10, gets injured and has to withdraw before Tokyo, then True may still be in.

Well we will find out but my guess is if Fisher makes the 5000m team he would only run that. That is his best shot for the highest finish. I really hope that’s what happens I would like to see True get to run in the Olympics
