Hutchins rewrote the record books already and is only a junior. Hutchins will end up asbest all time and Thorvakdson 2nd best. Hutchins will run 9:29 2 mile in HS and Thorvaldson 9:35. Hutchins will run 15:19 for 5k.

Maybe or she picks up an injury and never runs faster. Bascially half of the all time 2 mile list was run by underclass woman. I am sure they all thought they were running faster by their senior year.

It would be interesting to know where these athletes are in their training cycle. Normally I would go yeah a 9:48 in January running 9:35 in June is pretty doable but I have a feeling that some of the athletes are a lot closer than normal to a peak with the limited XC season and outdoor track season. Or they have built epic bases and outdoors wil be nuts

Saying she may get injured and never run faster is as silly as me predicting that Houlihan will win the 5k at the US Championships next summer and you saying that she might get injured so I had better not make that prediction.

Tuohy is the goat at High School distance running in general, cross country / track

Mary Cain is obviously the goat at track distance running. She has a record at everything from the 800 through the 2 Mile. And by big margins too!

Yeah I always find this wild-eyed hysteria for whoever is running good currently a little Annoying....

Katelyn Tuohy won multiple national titles over for straight years. And she was the best in her age group for six straight years

She also beat thorvaldsen, twice by big margins, in three straight years at nxn

She beat Hutchins by 40 seconds just last year....

So far they have 1 record between them and it was set by a couple of seconds. I'm sure they'll get the 3200 meter outdoor record but again they'll probably do it by a few seconds. I doubt anyone breaking 9:40 let alone 9:30. And they have the benefit of basically being professional runners in that there's no school there's no social obligations,

No high school girl in the history has had the luxury of living the life of a professional Runner without having to attend school or normal stuff. So that's certainly going to give you a few seconds a mile advantage

Anyway nothing against these girls. They all seem like good kids and they work hard and give it their all. But you just have to say something in light of this annoying attitude to anoint anyone who has a good season has the greatest of all time

You become the goat by doing it over many years and dominating for many straight years.

I think Tuohy still has 2 - the 3,000 m and the mile. Hutchins has the 5K XC record, but different course so that makes a tough comparison. But it is the official 5K XC record. But then again, Tuohy has the records for number of Gatorade Player of the year awards. Call me a doubter as to whether Hutchins will run 4:33, but I will not root against her.

It seems like just yesterday that Brown was going to be the one to beat all of Tuohy's records though.

This sums up my thoughts. People forget how good Cain was too quickly. 1:59 and 4:04 are nearly untouchable times, and she was an absolute champion on the track. Two-time indoor USA champion, World Junior Champion, and World Championship finalist at the senior level. Graduated HS with PRs of 1:59 (800), 2:35 (1000), 4:04 (1500), 4:24 (mile), 8:58 (3000), 9:38 (2-mile), and 15:45 (5000). Some of those didn't count as national records because she was competing as a professional, but it doesn't change how phenomenal those times really are. Combine that with her incredible feats in championship meets, and she's far and away the best high school distance/middle distance runner of all time, boys or girls.

I would like to see Hutchins try to break Tuohy’s Holmdel course record of 16:21. I think that would be much more impressive than her 15:58.

Hutchins has one record. As has been explained to you time and time again, There's no outdoor cross country 5K record because all the course is a different. Milesplit doesn't create records their just a media organization and they do that for obvious reasons getting attention and making money

Track records are always being broken that's just the nature of reality

The measure of greatness is how good you are compared to your peers and how much you dominate a sport

Hutchins might very well have an amazing year next year and one of the best years ever. If that happens good for her if she does that then we can all talk about it and applaud her efforts but until then it is just a possibility

Until then we can only judge on what has happened so far

Katelyn Tuohy has four straight years of winning national championship and three straight years of dominating cross country so until someone does better than that, she's the overall goat in terms of career

And until someone breaks Mary Cains Mile and two-mile record as well as her 800 she's the overall goat in track times

Who maintains the records, NFHS? Sounds like you need to tackle this fake news if she is not the legitimate record holder. Most of us recognize Hutchins as the record holder.

Anyway who cares, at the end of the day girls running is so precarious... Katelyn Tuohy, Claudia Lane Mary Cain, Amber Trotter, Brie Oakley, Grace ping, they all show on fortunately how hard it is for phenoms to pan out

Obviously cross-country just has course records because every course is different. Yeah one of those times has to be the fastest when you compare them but so what, they're just different courses, different degrees of difficulty so there's no official record

Someone else wrote Mary canes records are so off-the-charts that they are really are amazing. No one's coming close to touching her X, especially the mile 424 is just off the charts. She also ran a 428. Let me clarify that no one's coming close to touching all of her times 800 will probably get broken maybe the 2-mile but going to be a long time before we have a girl running all of those times

If you want to have wild-eyed hysteria I would have it from Mary Kane's resume. I actually think the girl who just ran really fast again , at the Virginia showcase, at 800 has a lot of potential as she has fast 800 mile and 2-mile times. The other girls are great distance Runners and they have a lot of potential but as of now they're really two-mile specialists

Too much variability in the courses for there to be a meaningful 5K XC record.

I think one of the coincidences of this pandemic is that the athletes are better rested and not being ground into dust by an insane schedule/work load. Could produce a crazy season record wise.

I don't think anyone is going to duplicate the range that Cain had. But at the longer distances, Hutchins has started a record attack that happened pretty quietly. Her 15:34 was done at a low key meet with 2 track seasons remaining. I really think she will get the 3000/3200/2 mile records.

Marathons a completely different because all the courses are certified, and the best runners in the world can enroll in any marathon they want

It's completely different than high school cross-country because kids don't get a chance to go to any course they want and run

Also there's no organization in the United States that verifies high school cross-country courses

And again it's just a money-making thing the reason they're having world record for the marathon is to increase interest in it and promote the sport

I mean how can you compare high school cross-country where that course was a completely new course that no one else in history has been able to run and obviously was really fast

Again I can't be going on and on about this with people obviously you don't want to lose any critical thinking skills

There's no organization in the United States that certifies high school cross-country or certify records in Cross Country on a national level.
